I'm 28
Only worked retail ( Best Buy and Apple)
2 classes away from an Associates degree (in general studies)

I'm thinking about learning a trade (electrician) but that will take 5 years to complete

Any advice guys?

Learn Carpentry instead.

You can build a shack to live in on your retail salary.

if you want to learn a trade, learn a trade.

You're not asking for advice you're wanting reassurance

Apprenticeships typically pay better than retail but lead to higher wages upon completing journeyman test for your licensing. I'm in Texas, picked plumbing as my trade to learn over eight years ago. I switched to a commission based plumbing company in February this year, busted my ass working lots of overtime shifts and overnight calls, and can say that as of last Friday I've cleared over six figures for the year (before tax).

My plan is to get my master's license, open up my own residential service company, and be office managerial roll only within five years. Staying as a trades person your entire life will give you health problems. Lots of people do it though.

Lol very true

Also unfortunately true

Very good advice. I know I'm not an old man but I'm also not 18 anymore. I'm worried that if I get into a trade later in life I'll regret it for health problems (not that I can run a marathon now)

Other than a trade (including sucking docks...)

What else should I look to
I've been lurking for a month and I see progaming tossed around a lot but I'm afraid there will be a bubble

Give me some hints fellas

>2 classes away

why not continue? it's better than nothing.

>I'm thinking about learning a trade (electrician) but that will take 5 years to complete

pretty good. I haven't met an electrician yet who hated his job.

>I'm afraid there will be a bubble

you just better hope that the tech giants can keep up this innovation pace

but I see what you mean about a possible tech bubble, I've heard others from wall st and main st call it recently

That's my mentality but with it in general studies (basically an extra high school degree) I don't know what to do with it. I'm not in debt from school so I could go into a bachelors degree I'm just not sure in what.
What are some degrees with decent outlooks? IMO STEM is going to get flooded with every highscool counselor suggesting it.

Thanks to everyone who has replied by the way

What area do you live in? What kind of lifestyle do you want to have? Is there a certain salary you want? How many hours do you plan to work to earn this salary?

Answering those will help narrow things down for other posters recommendations.

One more recommendation: if you're interested in a potential trade, could you get a job at a local phone repair shop, work long enough to learn how to service most major brands, then start up your own company??

I know there isn't a 5 year wait to learn like many traditional trades, plus it would be more of an indoor job. I've heard that it's a low cost start up with lots of room to grow.

I'm in Houston tx
60-70k nothing fancy just comfortable
I wouldn't call myself frugal but I try to live within my means

As a retail employee I work around 40hrs a week (no over time here) but if course my schedule is random and of course weekends are a must. I'm fine with this as long as I am in a comfortable lifestyle
