5'10" 171 pounds (as of this morning) = BMI of 24. I'm at 14.8% body fat so I'm pretty happy since I've been bulking pretty hard for about 5 weeks now. Gonna start cut in about 3 weeks. My goal is 8-9% body fat. I got down to 10% after my last cut and was feeling pretty good. The worst part about cutting is not seeing any of my lifts go up by very much for an extended period of time. You really do need to eat a lot in order to actually gain strength. My long term goal is aesthetics but it's really hard to look good without also being strong. Knowing your muscles aren't growing appreciably larger for a month or two can be pretty discouraging. But like all good thing it takes time.

And for the vast vast vast majority of people it's a really really really good proxy for body fat %. If you're training your ass off lifting weights then of course it's not a good indicator of health. But pretty much no one (as a percentage of the population) consistently goes to the gym 3-6 times a week and lifts heavy for at least a year or two. That's what it takes for BMI to stop being useful.

DYEL? No seriously. Do you lift? Because if you don't and you have visible belly fat your best bet is to lift not just starve yourself. Build up a small amount of noob gains without changing your diet and then bulk until you're maybe 165ish. Then cut back down to 155. Then bulk up again to 175ish then cut down to 165ish. The key is lifting throughout the entire process, especially the cutting. That way you don't lose muscle. It'll take a year or maybe more if you do it nice and slowly. By the time you finish your second cut you'll have a much lower body fat percentage at a higher weight. Obviously you can repeat this as needed.

Well, fucking duh. Has anyone EVER said that in history? Maybe some 700lb woman who's given up. Diet and exercise are the only ways to lose weight. I mean, this is a simple fact.

That said, it's important to note that it's more like DIET and exercise, as diet is about 8x more important to weight management as exercise, which is supplementary but ultimately not very effective for weight loss. Now, it's important for a myriad of other reasons like heart health, metabolism, mineral regulation, etc. but not weight loss. Don't let ANYONE tell you that you can lose weight JUST by exercising certain ways. It doesn't work like that.

Is your back bad because of spine issues? Or is it bad because the muscles are weak? Lots of people have weak back muscles. I still have relatively weak back muscles (compared to everything else on my body) but it's gotten much better since I started to focus on it more. Start off light and focus on form. I'm a big fan of underhand grip bent over rows and good old fashioned lat pull downs. Combine those with dead lifts and you've got a lot of your back covered. I used to be the same way back when i was 125.
set alarms make sure you eat snacks in
between vidya I hated breakfast as well i just
had to start forcing myself to eat cereal or
oatmeal in the morning over time it felt better
and got easier to eat in the morning. Also try
eating a bunch of yogurt in the morning maybe
greek yogurt for the fat content if you're trying
to gain weight. I find yogurt really easy to put
down especially when compared to cereal or
other typical morning foods it also helps with
bad breath ayy.

Throughout my teens I was a little overweight and was really unhappy about it, my parents would just say I need to exercise more but my weight stayed the same. You can be "underweight" but in reality be in top form, pro athletes and etc., with a fat℅ of 2-4 and you can be "overweight" like me with a couple of points. My fat℅ is around 10-15 and I do a lot of lifting and BMX, so I like it that way. Going any lower for me and I would begin loosing muscle mass again.
