Longboards are great for a few mile rides. If you're going uphill you can just get off and carry it up with no problem, and they're fairly light. Then you can just go all the way back down without even pushing. Make sure you know how to tighten your trucks before doing anything downhill, or you'll get wobbles and eat shit. Skate boards are pretty meh for transport, more for just tricks. Side walk cracks can fuck up a skaters day bad.
