I'm saying this because I have been diagnosed with it as a teen and my parents/teachers ignored it. Having to study and work in a room full of people was really awful and overstimulating to me and as a result my performance was sub-par. It wasn't until I got to a college where they allowed me work by myself/with a very small team, and my results increased tremendously. I can basically concentrate on a single problem uninterrupted for months if I have to, but I need to be left alone to do so.

I now work in a research lab and am contributing to society without being a problem for anyone. Whenever I hear people arguing that this condition doesn't exist and people should just suck it up, I find it really aggravating. Why would you want another human being to suffer for no other reason than you being unable to accept not everybody is the same. If anything, I think THAT's really autistic.
