football is kind of the ancient greek ideal of manliness in sports:

dont get me wrong, rugby (or whatever you call it, american football or something) is a very rough sport and lets be real most of us would not survive a single game because we'd get crushed by huge men.

but just look at football players, they are taller than wide (which is neither typical for rugby players nor very man-ly in a biological sense, we didnt descend from gorillas is what i am saying), they run almost as fast as olympic runners and do their stuff for at least 90 minutes, sometimes even 2 hours plus overtime and penalties in the end just like at the european cup this year all the time.
endurance is something mankind was probably best known for before we invented stuff like the wheel, tools and houses. we were true endurance monsters, we could not outrun most prey we hunted but we could certainly outwalk them, even if it took us days and weeks until the animal collapsed from exhaustion.
american football on the other hand is not as well known for its athleticly built and persistent players, jumping upon and ramming eachother is more like something other animals would do, not humans. no wonder there are so many niggers in american football but only very few at the very top of the best football players in the world, especially if you count brazilian almost nigs as something else.
