It's not just the cops. The whole system is structured to allow every official to hide behind the skirts of his job. "I am just doing my duty" say the prosecutors who imprison people who they know don't deserve it. Of course every prosecuting attorney has had cases where he knew the person was innocent. In fact part of their job is to inflate the charges above the crime and then bargain with the defense for a reduced charge. This is their job. It isn't good. It is fucking evil what they do. The poor and the poorly defended end up getting much more severe sentences. The rich pay powerful attorneys to get them off. And the prosecutor goes home happy that he has done his job and feeling no guilt for the people he has harmed. This is just one example. I could go on to so many other officials, like the jack asses we vote for to write our laws. They are mostly lawyers and know that many of the laws they write are unconstitutional, but they don't care. They say they are just representing their people. They pretend that they are not responsible for their actions. "Let the courts decide if it is legal"
