Sup /b/
Took up playing guitar several months ago, and I've been trying to learn a lot of new songs. Any suggestions for fun songs to learn and play?
I listen to a lot of different genres so I'll adapt to most of what you give me.
Some songs I've been learning to kinda gauge my skill:
Kansas- Carry On My Wayward Son
Boston- More Than a Feeling
The Hotelier- An Introduction To The Album
Avenged Sevenfold- Unholy Confessions
Suicidal Tendencies- Institutionalized(I can do the first solo slowly without fucking it up too bad)
Megadeth- Hangar 18(Can do first solo, all the soloes past that are beyond me)
Nujabes- Aurarian Dance
Also guitar general I suppose
Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix

get rocksmith play paint it black or love thats gone both are pretty fun to play tbh for a shit guitar player i reccomend love thats gone
>>693394612
Rude Mood by Stevie Ray Vaughan
>>693395024
Hey dude, any guitars you can recommend with rocksmith? I'm still using the epiphone that originally came with the game, and I'm having a hard time bending strings, and the cords seems to have too much travel (ie: too far away from the frets, not sure if this is the right term for it).
>>693394612
Hey Hey What Can I Do -Led Zeppelin
Here are my guitars. Hardly play the epiphone. Thinking of selling it to save for a better one.
>>693395024
damn, I was actually just the other day listening to Paint It Black and thinking I should look up the tab. Thanks man!
>>693394982
>>693395443
thanks! I'm writing these down. That reminds me I wanna see what I can do with Pride And Joy as well
>>693395475
i suggest this kind of guitar http://www.walmart.com/ip/Main-Street-Guitars-MEDCBK-Double-Cutaway-Electric-Guitar-Black/29893229?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=14&adid=22222222227020332458&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=52294516455&wl4=pla-79378532535&wl5=9016455&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=10606398&wl11=online&wl12=29893229&wl13=&veh=sem pic related
Anything by Racer X...
Slayer angel of death. Or any pantera.
Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. It's their "ballad" so it's not hard until you get to the solo which isn't even hard.
Killing Floor
>>693396625
honestly surprised I've never learned a metallica song. I'll check it out, thanks
To engage your skills I'd work with more hard rock/metal songs with heavy riffs and complex styles like:
Disturbed-Striken
Breaking Point-Falling down (or under)
Pearl Jam-Jeremy
Metallica-For whom the hell tolls
And other song like those
>>693397266
I'm currently learning the intro to Yellow Ledbetter. It's a little strange but I have the first part down. I'll look at your suggestions. I actually looked up stricken a month ago and was terrified by it so I didn't pursue it but I've come a long way since then so it might be time for another shot
Beginner/Intermediate guitarist here as well. Anyone have any tips for right hand improvement? I know quite a few chords, playing them and hitting individual notes with my left hand is a piece of cake but anything other than basic strumming patterns with my right hand and I derp out really hard. I'm trying to get into playing metal riffs, but alternate picking styles and picking back and forth between different strings just is not working for me. no matter how much I practice it just feels like my right hand is forever cursed.
Live and learn by crush 40
Welcome Home or In Keeping Secrets by Coheed and Cambria
Xanadu by Rush
or
Over the Hills and Far Away by Led Zeppelin
Also, when you want to play a mew song try learning by ear instead of using tabs or chord charts, it takes more time but if you practice everyday you'll get better much sooner.
Complex and Metallica? Your kidding right?
>>693399226
Try learning some Slash..hes a good string skipper...will really improve your timing and accuracy.....also some George Lynch...guys a beast with all his alternate picking techniques...
>>693400045
Op here, already can do the beginning riff to Welcome Home but haven't gone any further. I'll look into it
>>693400130
I've been able to pick out some chords and lace them together to songs I know, but haven't been able to draw together a whole riff by ear or anything. I know I have the ability, because I have a good ear and listen to a ton of music, but I need to dedicate more time to trying that
Tumbling Dice - Stones
South Bound Suarez - Zeppelin
2112 (the whole thing - Rush
What's Next To The Moon - AC/DC
Mean Streets - Van Halen
METAL kYS
>>693395585
Ill buy your Epiphone. How much?
The Suffering is good too. Also make sure you try Stairway To Heaven by Zep. Every guitarist should know that song.
>>693401731
Trust me when I say that practicing everyday for atleast 30min will make you a great player in a year or two. If you really enjoy playing the guitar 30min will feel like nothing.
Another thing that helps is just making up your own songs and playing whatever instead of something someone else has written. In a year or two you should be able to learn whole songs just by listening to it while trying to play along.

For bends get a lower string guage or get super slinkies or something. Get a yamaha pacifica or a squire if you want a easier bridge scale, but i dont know too much about those.
And make sure you diddle around qnd play alot even if you don't do scales. Get to know the instrument and what sounds right.
>>693394612
This guy literally walks you through hundreds of classic rock songs on guitar. And, he actually plays them right. Take it from an oldfag who has been playing for 30 years. These are all the songs you'll ever need.
