like a criteria to fall under to be considered sociopathic?

Mainly lack of empathy. Showing little emotion. The ability to easily move on from relationships is common.
>>
>>692943468
also a lack of remorse or guilt, and being a great liar
>>
>>692942428
You didn't ask me, nevertheless I will tell you (that might be making me a narcissist instead of a sociopath). When I was younger I came to a conclusion, while having a conversation with my philosophy lecturer, that our greatest blessing and our greatest curse is the same thing - we (human beings) cannot be satisfied, we always want more, we harm others to get more for ourselves. Then I started noticing pretty much everyone is like that. That's why I hate us all. If I could, I would erase us from earth.

>inb4 kill yourself, I would if it would make everyone else die and stop harming other species.
>>
>>692943468
Ahh not me then. I find I have zero empathy for some things then one little thing triggers me (usually something I can relate to) and I'll suddenly feel a ton of empathy.

I'm good at hiding emotions and i do find it easy to stop talking to people provided they're not part of my "bff" group, who i've known for 10+ years.

You should read Thee Psychick Bible. It's written by the founder of Throbbing Gristle. :). I found it to be interesting to say the least.
>>
>>692941699

Sociopaths would see little to no point in such an action. Above most everything else, we're very pragmatic people (the inability to feel that "higher" range of emotions will do that.) Logic and practicality reign in the routine of our lives. To that end, most of us will eventually find ourselves getting good at pretending to have emotional responses so we don't make our coworkers uneasy around us, which would be potentially problematic and therefore something to avoid.

Here's a good way to know if you're a sociopath: have you ever spent time in front of a mirror practicing facial expressions and "acting out" how you'll respond to simple social interactions, such as someone asking you advice at work or recommending a place to eat?
>>
>>692944690

My two possible conclusions were:

I am normal and everyone else is just an emotional pussy
or
Everyone else is normal and I have sociopathic tendencies.

If being a sociopath is being able to turn off your emotions whenever you want, then yes, definitely, I am. Any time I'm not piss-drunk, I can turn those fuckers off like a switch.
...And then people wonder why I feel superior all the time.

Yeach, it's pretty much like that. My emotions are automatically repressed 95% of the time, so that when I need to rage or cry or feel romantic I have to get wasted alone in my room and expose myself to the right images/music/video/etc. On one hand, feel powerful when I'm sober, on the other hand, to feel the need to e.g. cry and be literally unable to kind of sucks.

Psychiatrist here. You're not a sociopath, at best you may have some form of Asperger because autists often lack of empathy. I suggest you to read the DSM-V, at least you could circlejerk better on the Internet with your edgy friends pretending you're dark dudes. A sociopath isn't defined by his lack of empathy.

I've read the DSM-V and the DSM-IV. Neither are very clear on what constitutes a sociopath, or a psychopath. Hell, they haven't even figured out what being borderline or antisocial really involve. And I don't think anything I said can be reduced to having no empathy. In fact, needing to 'rage or cry or feel romantic' would imply the opposite.
Moreover, this has been, to my pleasant surprise, one of the least 'edgy' threads I've read in a while, so kindly eat a dick.

Then I suggest you to read more, because sociopathy and psychopathy are regrouped in antisocial personality disorder. Sociopathy is considered to be caused by the social environment (the sociopath didn't born like that), where psychopathy is considered to be genetical.

Though, you could re-read your post to see that you're just doing dialectic, not rhetoric. In fact, you're not even responding to me, you're just saying that these books are shit and that you never said that sociopaths were defined by their lack of empathy. In a nutshell, you have nothing to say.

That's just my point. They keep changing the definitions of these conditions and changing the requirements for a person to be included therein, so referencing these works as if they're the ultimate authority makes you a dumb twat. Psychology in general if a constantly-changing stream of iffy bullshit, which is partly why a thread like this is interesting. Or WAS interesting, until knobs like you showed up and started dropping buzzwords like 'edgy' and 'autist'.

I'm not even going to mention your abysmal level of English. Oh, wait, I just did.

Rather than try to assign labels to ourselves, it's more useful to just think of it in terms of 'how am I different from the accepted norm, if at all, and what does that mean for me?' My experience has suggested I share the same types of emotions with other people (I still get mad, and sad, and lonely, etc) but have a much greater level of control over their expression and influence on my actions. Maybe I'm a sociopath or something similar, or maybe I'm just surrounded by emotionally unstable fucktwigs. What's important is how this knowledge affects people's perception of me, and how I can use that to my advantage.
>>
>>692948105
I would say that unempathetic would be a start. We arent necessarily malicious though.
>>
>>692948109

>trying to have sex with my mother and both of my cousins
>trying to have sex with animals
>forcing people to watch me having sex with her sisters
>commiting varios crimes during childhood from stealing to fire raising
>always use my look as "the nice guy" to get away with anything
>always causing massive trouble and anxiety to the people who hung around me
>killing a few animals
>broke up with a sucidial girl and then bulling her after that she commited suicide
>I feel pride in anything i ever do and talk superior about it
>also I'm a self loving bastard who perfectly mimics emotions
>always try to get myself and others into dangerous situations
>people who fall for my tricks deserve it
>everything is about control and people are only there to fulfill my desires

If you don't care that everything I do is fake and only serves my purpose I'm a pretty cool guy to hang around with.
>>
>>692947629
The study of human mind is complex and our definitions often change, that's right. As you said, no one can really define a sociopath. That's the biggest problem with mental illnesses : if you know enough about them, you can fake them. If I couldn't already get Xanax with my job, I could just fake schyzophrenia. As a result, there's now young men, in quest of identity, that define themselves as sociopath to feel more special than others. Then, they come to Internet to find other special snowflakes to circlejerk with. I'm not even using buzzwords, but you have to call a cat a cat : nobody here knows anything about psychiatry. Too, you're just proving that you don't understand anything because "autist" wasn't intended to be used as an insult. There's different levels of autism, and Asperger is one of them.

That's right, my english is just good enough to shitpost on 4chan. Maybe you know french as good as I do, too ? I don't think so.

I suppose that's true, just be careful of labels, especially in disciplines like psychology.

If you want to know what your culture thinks about stuff, just watch movies, read books. Anything in which 'reality' is depicted gives you a great idea of what people think.

Look at a character you know you're supposed to dislike. Why are you supposed to dislike him? The writers are trying to make you respond emotionally to certain character traits, even though this character doesn't actually exist and/or hasn't actually affected you personally.

Cultures are weird.

>>692948648

You're accusing me of defining myself as a sociopath just to feel special. Actually, the thread is about us wondering what a sociopath is and whether we qualify. We're generally not needy enough that we need that ego boost - we're on /b/. There is no ego. We're trying to have a discussion, not throw insults around like you are. I don't accuse anyone. I'm saying that your only knowledge about sociopathy is what you think it is and your personal experience. Most people in this thread start from the fact that they're "sociopaths" and search elements in their lives that could prove that ("I have no emotions", "I killed a cat once").

Ego even exists on /b/, where we're all anonymous. The difference is that they're not trying to convince the others, but themselves. The ego resides here.
>>
>>692948559

I'd say you're an asshole. I generally only fuck people's lives up on a personal basis if I feel they deserve it. Maybe they did something to me, maybe I just feel like my actions will sort of restore a little bit of balance in the universe.
Killing animals for no reason doesn't sit well with me. I kill certain bugs because they breed in the wrong place, or they bite, or they get into my stuff, but I'd never kill a dog or cat, for instance, unless it was killing me or mine.

I sort of feel where you're coming from with some of that, but I'd argue I'm a bit more... balanced. My actions are defined by logic, not emotions, your actions seem defined by simple unnatural madness and emotions (pride being the most evident).
Have you considered smoking weed?

Always look at their body language, if they use their hands a lot try to ignore them and look for other things. I get the feeling interacting with morons has made you think you're a bit more superhuman than you actually are. I suspect that more people just think you're fucking weird than think you're a creepy genius. And I theorize that you're not quite as smart as you think you are.

I know very little, of course.

I try my best to make people like me, and think I'm normal, because they way people think about me directly influences how they behave towards me. Getting people to like your projected personality for your own benefit while hiding your true disdain and boredom is, I'd argue, a much more useful form of manipulation.

Don't really like weed more of an speed / cocaine kind of guy. I just don't like it when people don't behave like I want them to. If they do so they deserve a punishment which is based on my opinion and not on what they did.

Not sure I follow.
Hypothetical: you meet a girl, she doesn't immediately infuriate you, but you want to fuck her and she isn't into it because she has a boyfriend she plans to marry. I assume that qualifies as 'not behaving like you want her to', right? So what do you do about it?

I wish I had more sociopathic friends. It seems like we always get along and find common ground since we're beyond the ability to manipulate each other.

The drum machine kills it completely unfortunately. Otherwise really nice. While you're at it the bass should have stood out a lot more.

The thing is that I don't know what I want. I'm basically nobody without somebody to interact with and my manipulation is more like a reflex. Sometimes I can control it but most of the times it happens without my knowledge, I just know when to use certain words and gestures which most of the times get me what I want. Also if I look in the mirror I get the feeling like I don't know the person infront of it-

Currently have two girls of this kind. Basically I try to get them to break up with their bf or try to get them drunk then use some sort of emotional leverage to fuck them. If the sex is enjoyable then I will continue with them otherwise they get dumped.

I have not been diagnosed with anything except depression, but experience some of the traits of a sociopath. I however do not define myself as that, since I feel empathy towards other people. Remember that some of these traits are not necessarily bad, the practicality of things are needed in a world of completely emotionally controlled sheep. You balance it out, you show the world what the fuck it has become.

Most people in the music industry are sociopaths and had prior knowledge of 911

Im in the music industry and knew 9/11 would happen

I feel the opposite way. I know myself well, I know what I want because I think about stuff a lot to myself, I carefully plan my body language as much as I can...

On the other hand, if presented with that same hypothetical, I manipulate the girl until she likes me or hates her bf enough or is drunk enough to let me fuck her, I guess pretty much like you would. Good to know sex-drive supersedes socio/psychopathic tendencies.

Actually got a spoken-for workfriend the right kind of drunk a while back, first action in a while. She started moving on me, I pretended to try and stop her so that it would make me look like less of a manipulative asshole in hindsight, ended up eating her pussy for an hour or so before we had to go home. Thought for a very short while whether or not I regretted it even a little bit (she obviously did very much so later on since she's in love with bf), definitely not. Would do again in a heartbeat. We're still on speaking/friend terms because I played it cool, which means I might have another shot some day. I can identify many points in that night where guilt, or love, or impulsiveness would have screwed me in the longer run.

I wonder if the difference between sociopath and simply immoral is the lack of guilt?

Hmm, food for thought.

Most people in silicon valley are sociopaths. The former chef of Google went on to beat his wife and claim that he was the Chef to the Grateful Dead. People are nutz.

I also do know myself yet only the things I did or others did to me. I simply don't say that thing xyz was good or bad. I make them part of my story and depending on how I want to tell the story I change stuff. I just get the most fun out of everything. I only feel bad when other people tell me I done something wrong but only for the time I think it's needed to feel bad after that I just make fun of them. A lot of people want to punch me but no one does it so I just keep doing crazy shit and laugh people in the face :D
