I was in Russia and then Samara twice for school, not sure about St Petersburg, but Moscow was all tourist trap shit, just watch for beggars and pick pockets. My group did get attacked by a large group of skinheads in Samara just for being American (even though we were all white), lucky my group was able to get into a locked apartment building, but a few people did get pretty bloody. I'd say to avoid going out alone and stick to tourist areas if you're not white.

Basically I went to visit Samara Russia twice for student exchange, ten Russians stayed in America with us for a semester and then we went to stay with them in Russia for a semester. I made the trip twice, so basically spent two semesters there one in 2000 and one in 2001. Was pretty fun since the Russian girls were fucking hot as shit for us. They really loved Americans too, so was easy pickings. We shared these train cars on our 12 hour trip from Moscow to Samara and back. Really not much else to tell without getting typing a shit load, what I really don't feel up to doing right now.
