Times where I grow it out and want to make things tidy I do this:
Beard oil in the morning of the first day
Use a conditioner in the shower and run a comb through while its still init to get the knots and shitty crooked hairs out easier
Trim hair after shower to get stragglers.
Oil the odd day afterwards throughout the rest of the week and shampoo at night.
Not a master but I find its not a bad start for a beginner like me.

If i'm not mistaken, you take after your mothers father when it comes to hair. My grandfather had a full head of thick curly hair even in old age, and I've been told, basically everytime I go to a new barber that I have the thickest hair they have ever seen. I just started shaving it, bec. its such a fucking hot curly pain in the ass. Unless you are pre-disposed to balding, I wouldnt worry about your testosterone levels affecting the hair on your head. Now testosterone creams on the other hand, may have an effect. But I dont recommend those in the first place. Lift weights, and eat only foods that promote testosterone. I did this for a while, and grew a very thick beard, grew very thick chest hair, and my forearms looked like Robin Williams. everyone has different hair patterns and growth rates... our fingernails, hair on our head, facial hair, and body hair, can grow at different rates, depending on genetics, but mostly environmental factors imo.. ie, diet, exercise, sleep, etc.. but we are limited by genetics, for example.. people are generally locked into some period where the hair on their head will begin to shed, and so they can only grow it so long.. 6-12 months, for most people.. facial hair, not so much, but different rates for sure, i can grow a full beard in a cpl months, like 3-4 inches.. my beard, hair on my head, and fingernails grow crazy fast... i think from a nutritious diet, vitamins, and high metabolism / being very active... but probably genetics too.. work with what you got people..
