When I was 4 or 5 my dad showed me a bicentennial quarter he got in his change, and pointed out how it was different from the rest (this was back when 99% of all U.S. quarters just had the eagle on the back).

throughout my childhood from then-on, I always saved the special "drummer" quarters whenever I found them. To this day I usually avoid spending them when I find them, not sure why
>>
>>692043446
Awesome share anon, I save mine too and half dollars. Special memories! -OP
>>
always held onto wheat pennies when i notice them in my change (don't check for them often, far too lazy and usually use my card)
>>
>>692043738
Yup, sadly cards have taken the fun out of a lot of random finds. Great share.

One time I went to pay for a ticket in the parking garage in my town and the machine rejected one of my quarters. Lo and behold, I found out later that it was a silver quarter so I saved it. Tried to find it to take a pic but couldn't. But it looked identical to the one I ripped from google
>>
>>692044880

lol I've got a friend who took out like 500 bucks in half dollars from the bank and searched through them all for silver. found a couple from '69 but that was it. It was an annoying chore rolling them back up for him to lug down to the bank and re-deposit
>>
>>692044880
I bet so many ppl never check, but its crazy how something easily missed can be like 12x face value. Thanks for sharing -OP
>>

lol yeah now a-days they make a new quarter design every time one of the mint employees gets a new STD

Like the one on the right thats just a pure oz of silver. Its not really supposed to be used as legal tender right? It's just foolish i love it. Like these people could have literally said hey do you want to buy this for $20 and I would have been tickled. Instead they use it like an actual dollar.
>>
>>692047379
I'm with you on that anon. I'm sitting on 425 ounces of silver right now.

The 1944 tombac pieces are quite rare (worth about U.S.$10,000)
>>
>>692063469
Damn, thanks for the heads up, even though I never plan on giving away or selling any of my coins
>>
>>692063469
You don't have that, In 1942 & 1943 the composition of the 5 cent piece was changed from pure nickel to Tombac (.88 copper .12 zinc) to preserve nickel for the war effort. Close to the beginning of the production run in 1944 the composition was changed again, this time to nickel/chromium plated steel. Only about 8,000 tombac (.88 copper .12 zinc) 5 cent coins were struck in 1944 along with 11,532,784 steel pieces.
You have the nickel/chromium plated steel one worth 5 cents

I don't have many coins. I used to work at a gas station on an indian reservation and came across all kinds of crazy old bills though. Kids would raid their grandparents shit and buy candy, and i'd always keep a bunch of extra cash and trade out for the old shit.

Came across several of these Hawaii notes, North Africa ones, a few "Bank of....." like Charleston, and even a Gold Certificate. If I was at home, I'd upload some photos.

From my personal collection, a PCGS MS60 rainbow toned '89-CC Morgan and an NGC PF-62RB* 1902 Indian Cent toned completely purple on the reverse. I'm not one for modern strikes but the new state park quarter proofs are fun to sift through. I have my eye on some standing liberty errors for my next run.

Shit load of buffalo nickles (don't even care for those anymore). I loved finding Mercury dimes. Only got one from there. Biggest day was when a kid came in and had 20 1935 edition star note silver certificates (traded for quarters). 2 days later a guy came in asking if someone had used them there. To my shame, I denied seeing anything like that. If I could go back, I'd hand them to him, since I value them so much now I can only guess what they meant to him. However, this was in my prime collecting days, and I hadn't checked the values of them and thought I had hit the mother load.

Minted by the magician Carl Willmann. Magicpedia says "In 1895 he established the first German-language monthly magic periodical Die Zauberwelt." There were only a couple hundred in the world in the 90s

Trade it in for junk silver or 1 Oz silver coins. You can probably get 2 American silver eagles
>>
>>692053540
They have a premium on them especially if they are uncirculated or graded

Going to bump with a question. How is it that foreign currencies not go noticed at a cash register? I have gotten a 2 Euro coin back in change, one "New Sheqel" and many more. I live in Canada
>>
>>692072639
As a cashier, people hand it to me and I don't want to fuss with them having to dig change out again. I, however, buy it from the till. Others may not buy it, it gets sent to the cash office, if they don't want it, it goes back into a till, and given to someone else, hoping they don't see what it is.

Damn, that's nice. I feel like a major amateur around you guys, How do you get these nice coins? I have been collecting for almost 10 years and the closest thing I have is an untouched Canadian silver dollar

Do want.

Cashier here, I've got a bunch of canadian stuff, some europoor stuff, a Jamaican 10 dollar coin (which isn't impressive seeing as they have a 5000 dollar bill in circulation) and some other small items.
>>
>>692075033
I managed to find a Jamaican 1 dollar coin while cutting a couch in half and anything else I have found. I Found a coin from Italy on the floor in grade 4 and a coin from the Netherlands on the same floor
