I've been using my camera phone for the longest time. As I've gotten new cameras obviously the qualities of the videos got better. I did use a couple times an actual hi-def camera and used black electric tape to turn it back so i could hide it in dark areas which got me a few great videos but the risk as too much. Good point. Looking at http://www.stardot.com/bandwidth-and-storage-calculator, using 1080p 30FPS H.264 comes out at 12Mbps so only 12 hours is ~32GB.
There are some SIMD JPEG libraries but then MJPEG needs 60Mbps which is way worse.
Haven't bothered looking into SIMD H.264 libraries.

Even so, maybe 1080p 30FPS would be too slow to attach to my pet so I'd probably have to drop down to 720p but up to 60FPS.

I do the exact same thing, except I purchased an expensive ($500 or so) sheet of two-way mirror that is the same size as a full-length dressing mirror. I cut open holes in the bathroom wall with a jig saw and a circular hole saw, placed the cameras inside, then placed the huge two-way mirror over everything. So the cameras are completely hidden behind what looks - and functions like - a full length dressing mirror that chicks want to naturally check themselves out naked in front of anyway.

There are two GoPro Hero 4 Black (4k resolution) and one 1080P IPcam that i put exactly at pussy height to get closeups.
