im about to join the navy and im headed to meps tomorrow and need some suggestions for a job, i got a 73 on my asvab and would prefer a job more tech related. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and also any general advice about enlisting/bootcamp/A school would also be much appreciated.
>>
>>691756924
Why the Navy? Just curious.
>>
Anything electrical, air conditioning, welding, or other trades. On the outside you will start at about 25 an hour
>>
bikini inspector? heard its very technical
>>
>>691758317
I heard the navy was the best branch for learning technical skills(except maybe the airforce) and also get to travel the most out of any branch.
>>
Try to go for a top security job, that way you can potentially work for a government agency after your contract for 6 figures a year.
>>
Database administration, then data analysis.

They'll move you up to CIA, NSA quickly.

Enjoy Honolulu!

With which you can work for as a civilian and make so much more afterward.
>>
>>691758759
That sounds exactly like the type of thing i want to go into. Do you think a 73 would qualify though for that type of job? Also ive been looking into crypology if you could shine any light on that.
>>
Navy guy for 12 years here, don't do it. Just don't.

If you get CTN and go one enlistment then you'll be good, but otherwise fuck the Navy so hard. The "travel" people tote about the Navy is shitty, short port visits with early curfews and tourist trap areas because that's where all the Sailors can even go to. The Navy also circlejerks history, is more bureaucratic and paperwork-laden than the SS, and brags about how important it is despite not being a major force since WW2.
>>
>>691759057
My only other option at this point is to get some shitty minimum wage job also another huge reason im doing this is for the G.I bill as i would like to go to college after my contract.

Former navy fag here. CT, IT, EM, ET, MM, and HM are pretty solid rates or are good for when you get out. BM is not bad if you like hard work and working with people who all think they are better than others. Avoid shit like CS, OS, LS or SH. I was on a DDG so I dont know too much about air rates. Also if you like hard work and working out consider navy diver. That can help you get some lucrative work if you get out. I was a commercial diver for a while after I got out and one of the best divers I ever met who had the best jobs was a former navy diver.
>>
>>691759318
You have options. Learn a vocational skill and get paid a lot of money for a low-manned position, go to college on loans, or go Coast Guard.

I'm not DoD so I don't know their system. General rule of thumb is work your way up from where you start. Working hard > being smart. Cracking cryptography is some Master's-level theoretical mathematician type shit so you won't start there. You'll want to take all the math and then some: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete, etc.

Plugging away at a database is simple shit, just a path to less simple shit. Where combinatorial mathematics and data analysis intersects is where the big money is.

You dont pick your job. They pick your job after you sign your life away to be a slave to the government. They tell you retarded shit like 'oh yeah you can do whatever you want kid! you got a bright future!' and similar shit. They'll have you sucking dick if they really want you to. Also, it is only worth it if you go in as a career move OR go to college and become an officer, otherwise, don't become a bullet catcher (or a cum dumpster since you want to be in the navy)

You sign a contract before you leave guaranteeing you a rate or a school. The only way to not get the job is if you cant make it through the school or drop your rate intentional.
>>
I hope you get to read this; I also joined the navy when I was younger and also did not know what job to choose going into meps. I met an older man who asked me what it is I wanted to do with my time in the navy. Since I really had no idea what I wanted to do, this man told me "you're going to be a Seabee." That day I became a BU, a builder, and tracked the world building hospitals in Africa, schools in the Philippines, training in Europe. I had the best time of my life in the Seabees, and I highly encourage you to become one. I'm out now, and a diplomat. But I will always remember my time in the Seabees.

ive been in the army for 9 years, secret clearance and have an IT job. The background check dont mean shit. I did a lot of stupid shit as teen too. So far I've loved my experience in the military. Choose IT or be a corpsman, youll make a decent wage on the civilian side if you decide to get out. But after your fist contract or durring, go to school and become an officer. And if you decide to stay 20 years, youll get full beneifts when you retire

No, it tells you what kind of patch will be on your arm if you make third class.

There is a lot of extra bullshit that comes with being trapped on a tin can in the middle of the ocean with a piece of paper that says (indirectly, at extremes) that they can kill you if you leave.

Since you LIVE ON that tin can-your job is whatever the man tells you. Not probably, for sure.

this is partially true, although this guy is explaining horribly. While you do have a main job, you will be tasked to do menial things such as cleaning. However, everyone (at least enlisted) has at one point done this, including the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. It's all about putting your time in and learning how to follow direction and know when to shut the fuck up and listen. You will learn a lot about yourself. Nothing is given to you, you have to work for it
>>

If they ever told the truth, no one will ever join. Still they try to make it look fun to die for some else his fight.
Never join, get yourself a family, so you can fuck all night, every night, and get love from your children who see you every day. That is the true gift and joy of life, the rest is media bull, to make money or make slaves. Wake up.

But if you serious about it. Read the books you superious do, so they won't get to you. They basicly learn how to treath slaves, so read Plato's Critias. Greek philosophy is how to rule, roman litrature is how to conquer. Know both, and you will never be an underdog. Follow your bible and Christ and you will never be a leader. It's that simple.

NCOs are class 2 you fuckup.

Thanks for proving my point.
>>
>>691772331
Combat medic first you fucking bitch.
>>
>>691772064
ha im far from a liberal. IT sounds like you were the fuck up who didn't know how to follow directions and as a result you got "fucked" by your NCO's. I look out for my soldiers and have their complete trust and obedience. Also, your race comment is hilarious. A majority of all the high brass are white. You're a shitbag, thanks for making that clear. Im glad you're out the military.

Dude I'm an AT and I work on mh-60s in norfolk. Shit is cake. Everyone in my shop is sitting around chilling right now. Go into aviation, there's a good chance you won't see a boat your first 3 years. I was on the kearsarge for 7 months. Believe me, you don't want any part of that shit. Boat people have shit for brains.
>>
>>691772633
>NCOs are non combatants

No you.
>>
If you're joining simply for an easy ride and a little travel, go air force. The AF actually takes care of their people and have a very relaxed attitude compared to the rest of the branches.

CHAIR FORCE
>>
>>691773127
>>691773271
this is true. Sometimes I regret not joining the Air Force but I loved my experience in the Army so far
>>
Be cautious of what career field you sign up for. Some fields will extend your active duty contract for a year due to the amount of training needed.

Make sure you pick something you can pass in. If you flunk out of your tech school you're royally fucked and the Navy will pick a new spot for you

One more thing. Make sure the recruiter writes down exactly what you wanted on your contract. When you go to boot camp you'll have to review everything, MAKE SURE YOUR JOB IS CORRECT. If not you can renig on the entire thing if they don't give you what you initially signed up for.
>>
>>691773433
I was in the Marines for 4 years and I had a blast. But AF would have been a career. I'd chop off my leg before joining the Army
>>
>>691773543
>fyi you can renig on the entire thing, for any reason...before bootcamp is over

Just in case they try to hide the safety valve from any of you.
>>
>>691773781
haha whats so wrong with the army?. Id rather be in the army than some grunt.
>>
>>691772876
You're full of fucking shit asshole.

The majority of 1SG and CPTs in the military are FUCKING BLACK!

You think those blacks in uniform have your back? Think again you brain washed tool, they'll cut your throat without even thinking twice about it. Blacks/non whites, females, and gays have no sense of camaraderie that white heterosexual males could have with other races. They are all for themselves and against heterosexual white males.

Oh and make no mistake about it faggot, I'll get back in, and I'm going to fuck as many people as I possibly can.

I don't even fucking care if it ruins my career. The country is run by liberals, blacks, gays, transexuals and feminists. There is no getting ahead being "good" in the military.

I'm sure youll make 1SG if you show up to work drunk and suck the CPTs dick you fucking spineless bitch.

I don't know how naval Nuclear Weapons programs go, but in the Air Force (I was a 2W2), the only time you truly had to worry about background and references were trying to get a TS with CNWDI

That took me a solid 6 months to clear

otherwise you are fine
>>
>>691772966
IF you're an NCO look at the back of your fucking CAC card you god damn idiot.

YOU WILL SEE A 2!

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I'd agree but seeing as OP got a reasonable score and is actually attempting critical thinking skills, USMC may not be right for him
>>
>>691768757
BWAHAHAHA

8 years as a 2W2 - I met some right dumb fuckers there

I'm outting myself on this...but I won Airmen of the Year and Technician of the year in the same shot....All I did was do my job reasonably well...no....being a nuc troop DOES NOT guarantee your mates will be smart

It was so pleasing when I left the AF (which I enjoyed) to go to grad school and meet people who were intelligent and cared
>>
>>691774416
Even if you were right...which you're not-- you would see I I. Not 2.
>>
>>691774847
Airman of the year? Tech of the year?

That doesnt make you smart my friend, that makes you a fucking suck up, a brown noser, and a liberal cock sucker.

So what you can remember some dates and recite them in a board.

Woop tee fucking doo.

You are now the Priviate Seargeant First Class Captain America Major General.

Go forth and spread your seeds of liberal doom you faggot.
>>
>>691774258
when i said brass, i wasn't talking about company level. I meant like Pentagon and actual commands with Generals, mostly white.

I don't plan on making 1SG, too much politics at that point. Don't want the responsibility. I'm aiming to retire as a MSG.

Good luck on trying to get back in though, we're going through a major draw down right now. You won't make it back in. They'll see your DD214 and laugh in your fucking face
>>
>>691775073
You know I could point out the fact that "II" is a roman numeral for "2".

But that would require that you use less than 1% of your brain.
>>
>>691775359
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.

With a BSN? They'll fucking BEG me to come back in mother fucker!
>>
>>691775738
the army is over strength in nurses. I work in a medical unit. The army needs actual docs and providers

Congrats on being the dumbest poster in this thread

Go back...read what I wrote...think...feel bad about yourself....get back to me

I was saying what a joke it was. I am saying you DON'T have to be smart. I even said all I did was my job and STILL got it

fuck.,...you must be Army
>>
>>691772885
I'm also an AT. Aviation is the way to go. Almost 4 years of sea duty and still haven't seen a boat.
