I currently own a shotgun, but all things considered If theres an active shooter or if there are intruders in your home and they are armed it doesn't become "oh I have a shotgun, its a close range weapon so therefore im good" in those short seconds you need to eliminate the threat and eliminate it fast, sure a shotgun is great but the time it takes to empty the entire magazine is quite a while, whereas if you have an AR you can get those rounds off quicker and still have more incase they decide its not over.
