I was in a similar situation recently, my girlfriend of five years who I thought I would marry ended up leaving me. It sucked for a while, but I went to my neighbors daughters graduation a few weeks ago (keep in mind I'm 23, most of the girls there are 17-19). I met this smoking hot, cool as fuck girl there and we hit it off immediately. Can't say for sure if it'll be a permanent thing but we're interested in all the same shit and she's just one amazing bitch overall.

I realized how much my old girl was holding me down after just hanging with this girl a few times. Keep your mind open, try your hardest to keep your job or find a better one, and find a woman that suits you.

I was in for 4 years and I served in the ME. Do you know what's going on over there? Basically, it's a military industrial complex THEME PARK where killers run around testing out all the new shiny gear the military are paying for, while dying for absolutely nothing.

Most of ANY military career is spent at peace. If you are smart, you think "career" from the motherfucking start because you can always get out but planning your career pays off.

Ignore non-vet comments completely. They aren't all trolls but they can't know shit about the military without being in it. The military is a constellation of different branches and very different specialities within those branches. Some troops would be pissed off if they were having an orgasm and live to bitch. Others know how to move smoothly through the system.

There is a saying that "there are many ways to serve". Do yer fucking homework and choose wisely. Everyone has different aptitudes. The military can be idea for someone wanting a change. It got me out of New Jersey during a Recession and I haven't felt one since.

If you enlist, don't hang out with drunks or other varieties of loser. Do learn from those with more experience. Any NCO who isn't a piece of shit is willing to help new troops.

The military is not Full Metal Jacket, though Basic would be better if it were still that way. The military is not a war movie.

To retire with that delicious Federal paycheck and benefit package ya need to make it to twenty. Time flies and that's the easy part though mid-career is often boring. When you hit twenty, a magical halo descends upon your head and you know if you get tired of providing adult day care you can leave when your enlistment ends.

The most fun years are typically the first two thirds of your career, but YMMV.

Join the Air Force. Retake ASVAB if necessary and treat the first time as practice.

I fucking loved aircraft maintenance but I'm a gearhead. The cute pussy is NOT in aircraft maintenance (my wife was a fortunate exception). There's plenty in Medical fields and if I'd gone that way I'd be one of the few straight guys among much coochie. Med weenies have outstanding civilian employability.

Do not become a cop or work Transportation. You want NOTHING to do with any vehicle which doesn't have wings or rotors.

Do not go in under a General enlistment. Those guys/gals get the jobs everyone else had the sense to avoid.

Do take all the tech training you can get. Do crosstrain into another career field if you can get a good one because you drastically increase your skills and it's fun to get a fresh start. (I worked avionics, engines and later crew chief.)

The military has a generally youthful atmosphere compared to the stagnation of civilan jobs, and after working for a community college I will never again make "military intelligence" jokes.

Don't go into IT UNLESS you plan on a full career. Military IT is not leading edge in any respect. Lots of legacy systems etc. However if you go in and stay in, you have a shot at a second career in a comfy GS or contractor slot. Job satisfaction is nice but doesn't make house payments. Federal employment is beautiful.

Not having to work again after retiring is extremely nice, and is practical if you play your cards right. Self and .milbros did and life is good.
