I think there really is an evolutionary reason for this. Basically young women are most desirable because they haven't been with other males and the whole point is to get them pregnant before other males for competition of strong genes.

Since "love" lasts a pretty long time you may be with this person for many years and when the girl is finally fertile then she will get pregnant and she will be bonded with the male so she will be less likely to be a slut and fuck other males.
