WAY too expensive to catch atm, and the hardware required to use it is out of reach of most people. Given the new GPU's about to hit the market (10+ times more powerful than a titan TI, while consuming less power) that might change a tad.
I think it'll be a small niche thing for a year or two, then the price will become manageable and start being mainstream. That is if it survives the first year or two. Which I hope it does, because I want it to be good.
>>
>>690652218
Crappy fragmented VR market. It's impossible to tell which headset will be successful, and they cost so much it's an expensive decision to get wrong. No industry standards and no clear winners yet.
>>
>>690652545
How goy
>>
>>690652560
Why do you like it? It kind of scare the shit out of me?
>>
>>690653124
Do you think the console ones will die out like 3D gaming?
>>
>>690653243
Scare you? Are you a complete pussy?
It looks like fun. I mean, it all depends on the genre of game. I dunno if a twich shooter like cod would work, I think I'd just get motion sickness. But survival horror games? Fuck yes.
Simulators? Fuck yes.
Survival Crafting games, Fuck yes.
SPACE GAMES?! FUCK YEEEEESSSSS.
I think there's alot of potential there, especially for games that put alot of emphasis on interesting/impressive visuals/design, like space.
>>
>>690654053
What about the non gaming aspect?
>>
>>690654722
The porn industry has been experimenting, and it seems promising.
>>
I have an inside source that can fucking admit that both Ubisoft and EA and Activision belief the same thing

>>690653310

Its the same as bullshit motion controls that people were up in arms about a few years ago , when normal consumer bases play a game thats what they fucking want.. a controller or keyboard and mouse.. not some nauseating headpiece glued to your face.
>>
>>690655244
Also making games for it is crazy expensive , and why would they go for a limited demographic ? Game devs are still a fucking business at the end of the day as much as people think they arent
>>
>>690654722
There's a non gaming aspect?
I'm only interested in gaming.
I suppose, once the technology becomes more common you could make movies etc. for it. I imagine something like that action movie shot entirely in first person.
Actually, I could see alot of cool shit educationally for it, think good ole nature documentaries.
Ya, I could see it being neat/useful for other things, but for me its absolutely a primarily gaming thing. And porn obv, doesn't even need to be stated.
It needs to catch on with gamers tho, become cheaper, less hardware dependent, and sell sell. Otherwise no company is going to sink money into developing media for use with it. Also, one of the headsets needs to dominate and establish a standard for use that other headsets follow, otherwise developers are just gonna avoid the headache of making their games compatible with 3-4 systems AND multiple VR headsets, AND makes multiple headsets work with their software on multiple platforms.
>>
>>690652218
Ill try it when there is amateur porn
>>
>>690652218

At the moment it's a lot of wasted potential. Make something worth watching or playing on it and maybe i'm interested.
>>
>>690652218
i'll wait until headsets become wireless, at that point surely everything else will have improved
>>
>>690655244
You can use a controller/mouse and kb with a headset....
I get where you're coming from, but I think VR has a WAY better chance of being successful than fucking motion controls. No one wanted motion controls, no one asked for it, and from day 1 anyone with an ounce of sense shat on motion controls.
>>
>>690655021
Yeah that shit seems wack

>>690655968
considering a "reality" means a whole sensorial experience, its kinda stupid to not want to interact with what you see.
>>
>>690655968
VR is literally a concept that has been around for years

Motion sickness for example , around 50% of people feel it , no amount of comfortable headset can fix that and thats already a large part of the demographic.

I have tried a Vive , Occulus and Google Cardboard and each one (Vive honestly being the best)

I dunno , I hate VR, wont jump on the bandwagon any time soon.
>>
>>690656510
Ok , a fucking games a fucking game , I have been playing said fucking games for around 16yrs now

Call me a traditionalist that likes his media in print or games to be on the right system instead of emulation

Like the Wii , that took off as it was an open console for everyone to try , I dont see VR doing that
>>
>>690652218
its hilarious how they said oculus was going to change the world and VR would be the biggest thing ever and people wouldnt stfu about it

and then it was a complete fucking failure and noone talks about it at all now

feels so good to be right all the time
>>
>>690656510
Oh, so you think VR is dependant on clearing out a room so you can stand up, and jump around blind to the real world?
Interesting that you can see teh entertainment value of using a VR headset while sitting in a recliner holding a controller playing a flight sim or horror game.
Me thinks you're forcing a link that isn't there. Motion controls =/= VR
>>
>>690656958
Oh yeah I know one of the cucks who worked on the occulus SDK , never have I been happier to see something blunder

Fuck that guy
>>
>>690656606
this is pretty much waht i said when they announced it last year. told everyone it will never catch because of motion sickness. its the reason all VR previously failed so badly. you would go to VR arcades and they even had signs saying you wernt allowed to play more than 15 mins because of the liability. no fine tuning in the world is going to fix that. VR is dead technology and unless they beam it directly into your brain, its going nowhere. they should be working on hologram tech now instead
>>
>>690656606
I'm not young.
I used a virtual boy at launch, it was shite, and more like 70% of people got sick.
The modern VR sets are down to 20%ish, MUCH better frustrates and smoothing.
I'm not jumping in either, for all teh reasons I wrote here >>690652560
But I'm hopeful, I can see it being a good thing. Just gotta wait and see what happens.
>>
>>690657224
yea fuck that guy and all the losers that defended that piece of shit
>>
It's gonna be exactly like Wall-E
>>
I couldn't get into the games but I really enjoy downloading TV shows and watching them in the cinema and using the netflix app. Watching game of thrones in an actual movie theater is cool. It would be fun if you could do it and watch stuff with friends sitting around you

The porn is really good and has great potential but it would be way better if it had amateur stuff instead of all the super-fake professional porn videos
>>
>>690657277
I work for an inside source and I was saying here >>690655244

Most main developers see it as a blunder as much as they arent admitting it at the moment.
>>
>>690657475
HAH YESSSSSS
>>
>>690657440
Oh not just that , fucking creep to , 26yrs old wanted to fuck my 17yr old friend
>>
>>690657035
>Oh, so you think VR is dependant on clearing out a room so you can stand up, and jump around blind to the real world?

Exactly, interactivity is the point of V-I-R-T-U-A-L-R-E-A-L-I-T-Y, if you just want to see inside a "different world" without moving anything but your fingers, thats fine too, but in that case you should just get a 3D display or a surround sound system, also if motion controls =/= VR, why do headsets have motion sensors?
>>
>>690655674
Seems like it could be useful for 3d stuff, or at least entertaining. Being able to see 3d scenes in first person 360 view.
>>
>>690655785
Same once it can jerk my dick like the scene in "the 6th day" then ill leave my woman and become str8 neckbeard
>>
>>690658148
Damn technology bruh
>>
I think its useless and stupid. Who the fuck wants to game in first person VR? I want to just lay back on a couch and play. Fuck standing up and moving/interacting and shit when you can go out for that. Id say its fun for occasions kind of like the wii was a few years back but thats about it.
>>
>>690658075

Perhaps augmented reality will find some niche industrial applications

VR is shit for telling a linear story; I love film so I'm biased, but I really can't imagine any medium overtaking 2D motion pictures as the king of the arts, at least not until we're beaming orgasms straight into our brains.

It would be cool to have games about open ended exploration in VR but seems impractical for a mass market medium.
>>
Virtual reality and holograms and shit can be useful i guess. Military training, 3d visualization etc. I think VR gaming on the other hand is pathetic
>>
>>690658413
I managed to be a fat fuck and learn to play every wii game that i ever owned, laying on my fatass, soaking in scrotum stew.
>>
>>690657637
I don;t doubt that, the Occulus, which really was the root of this wave of VR attempts, was a complete fucking mess of a development/release/marketing.
If I was a dev, I would be watching with curiosity, but investing 0$ in it.
If Occulus had stayed on track for release, managed to hit that 2-300$ price range, and didn't botch every Q&A/public deal, it might of turned out different.
But, like I said before, I'm still hopeful. I think it has potential, just not getting on that bandwagon until certain things happen. Namely price and hardware dependency.

Oh definitely , the main reason I know all of this is because , he does the stocks of IPs and investments , for example during E3 the stock of Battlefield 1 increased by around 422% compared to occulus which was stagment for the most part
>>
>>690658075
>>690658468
The point of VR isn't motion controls... it's an immersive video/audio experience. That's all.
The motion shit on the headset itself, is for looking around, which I agree is dumb, and I'd turn it off.
If your argument is VR isn't VR unless it incorporates motion controls, our conversation is over, because you're just demanding a requisite that has never ever been there.
Immersive Video/audio experience. That's all.
PS: Jumping on the hatewagon is just as bad as hopping on the bandwagon.
I'm skeptical, but hopeful, that's all.
>>
>>690658536
I agree with you to a point, but I think it COULD be done well. As I stated before, documentaries and films shot in first person (I'm thinking cloverfield-esque shit) could be neat, but I don't see it completely overttaking conventional film.

>>690659312

VR /b/ would get nasty very fast.
>>
>>690659691
Graphics are pretty decent, then.
>>
>>690659312
And all i'm saying is that for me it takes more than just audio and video to be truly immersive, for interactive stuff of course, obviously a "look around" feature would be useless and even bothersome in movies and other content where you're just a spectator, but for gaming, if you're supposed to actually have a presence inside the game, motion controls are a much better way to actually feel like you're there.
>>
>>690660507
I am posting using my gear vr right now.
