SRV was a god. Played with thick ass strings because he cared so much about his fat fucking tone, and it made him stand out so much. His phrasing is often not appreciated much because people see him as a "speed freak", which he was in his own right, but songs like Lenny and Crossfire have some seriously incredible playing on them.

SRV didn't write Little Wing, though. Stevie had decades of predecessor's to learn from, because after all, he hit the blues game a little late.
That said, technically SRV blows Hendrix away, but that's only because he learned Jimi's licks and then built upon them. Hendrix was state of the art for mid-late 1960's with jazz/bebop guitar omitted.
