Can we get a horror movie rec thread going?
I just saw "It Follows". I enjoyed it. Seen "The Babadook" recently, loved it.
28 Days Later is probably my favorite. Loved the characters, the atmosphere, and found it scary.

>>
it follows was fucking garbage. babadook was really good
>>
>>690493734
I liked it, found it creepy. A little heavy handed. Kinda felt meandering. Best way I heard it described was like a bad dream. Doesn't always make sense, but it's spooky and has that emotional gut impact.
Babadook was amazing
>>
>>690493956
i honestly wanted to like it follows but it was so filled with flaws and the same thing happened all the time
>>
>>690494327
I'm a sucker for a beautiful film though, and i just felt aethetically it was a lot of fun to watch.

you know any other good movies other than babadook? i liked "the taking of deborah logan" and the first Insidious was ok apart from the predictable scares at times
>>
More comedy than horror but I really liked Krampus. Despite being a horror comedy it didn't make a fool of itself like something like Scary Movie. The comedy was subtle and made me chuckle.
>>
never even heard of that one. ill watch it when i go to bed in a few minutes. thanks :D
>>
>>690495863
tbh horror movies aren't really my forte. You're Next was fun to watch, Dead Man's Shoes was good. Those are more slasher flicks, but clever ones at least. I don't know many supernatural horrors though, which is what I'm more looking for. gonna check out Deborah Logan
>>
>>690496354
yeah man do it. it was well worth the watch! theres one scene in particular that even today gives me goosebumps. ill let you figure out which one im talking about ;)

Dead End 2003 , is a horror movie with some lil bits momentS of comedy but the tone and the story of the movie is perfect

>>
>>690492896
28 Days Later is not a horror movie.
Its a political movie.
It speaks about the lawless state, anarchism, self-proclamed powers, etc...

Some zombies here and there, but thats not the real subject of the movie.
>>
I have a fetish for watching all the slashers I remember being on big VHS boxes from when I was a kid and would sneak into the horror section of the local Movie Gallery. YouTube has a ridiculous amount of old and/or obscure horror if you don't mind the poor video quality and know what you're looking for. Recently, It Follows, Sinister 2, We Are Still Here, and The Visit have been my fav mainstream horror films. The Green Inferno is good for what it, but it's not for everyone.
>>
>>690497220
Agreed, but it has horror elements. I took it as more of nature striking back against abusive humanity.. I like your more political way of looking at it. If you have to classify it, I'd still say it's horror.
>>

>>690494327
Same here. Wanted so badly to like it. Was sold to me as being like the original Halloween for this generation. No fucking way. Was so fucking preachy. When your movie is based on 'subtext' like this one was supposed to be with the whole std thing it just falls flat being so heavy handed. No subtlety or tension at all. Want a good movie you've probably never seen? Go with the original REC or martyrs. Not the remakes.
>>
>>690498856
never heard of martyrs, but been wanting to check out REC before. thanks!
>>
>>690492896
28 Days is one of all time faves. Look into the [REC] movies, and watch Quarantine, which is also tied to the REC plot.

If you haven't already, watch 28 Weeks. It's not as good as 28 Days, but it's good.

Obviously any of the Evil Dead movies, I also saw the Conjuring 2 yesterday which wasn't that bad, had me spooked at times.
Aswell as Preacher as a series right now on AMC isn't too bad either, and it's relatively new.
>>
>>690498856
I actually took it for a metaphor for sexual assault.
-She couldn't love who she wanted to
-constantly on guard for average looking people
-fucking a dude she didn't really like
-Parents/society wouldn't believe her if she told them

I felt like the STD way of looking at it was pretty simplistic
>>
>>690498944
No worries /b/ro! Just know that Martyrs is gonna stick with you. That's one that weeks later you'll be laying in bed and a thought will pop into your mind about how fucked up it is. So very much worth a watch!
>>
>>690499150
wow that actually makes me dislike it even more damn
>>
>>690499150
Maybe that's what took me out of it so hard. It felt spoonfed to the audience as an std tale of caution.
>>
>>690499212
i hope so. i rarely get scared or spooped at all. thanks again!

Can't remember the number but I think it was 188 Arletta Avenue. Yeah a home address is a bad thing to name your movie. But I really enjoyed it. What made it scary was that it had a similar feel to The Strangers, in the sense that it could totally happen at any time. If you don't mind Found Footage films. I highly suggest it.
>>
Personally I only watch horror films made before the year 2000. 80s slasher films are my shit, I rewatch all the classic slasher franchises all the time. Also the Hammer Dracula films and black & white classic horror films are the best.

I find that, if you're looking for horror, don't actually look at the horror genre. Surrealism can evoke a far greater sense of dread than just the tension of a killer or monster sneaking up on some teen.

People have a hard time coping with strange angles, outlandish concepts, disjointed visuals, and twisted proportions. All components of most surrealist films.

The latest movies i have really dug were Blue Ruin (might as well be a horror movie), It Follows and Starry Eyes. All three make you uncomfortable and that is what matters

Seriously? Ignore IMDB for horror. It is a frowned-upon genre. Unless you're looking at the pre-1980s classics of acclaimed horror, most critics shit on the genre.

Yeah, made the genre one of the most predictable, formulaic shittiest genres available.

I bet you just looooove The Conjuring and Sinister.

Unfriended is your current favorite, isn't it?

So, since we're all talking about horror, any specific sub-genre of horror you all hate? I know everyone has at least one that leaves a sour taste in their mouth.

no, you jump because it builds up the tension first and than the jump comes. They are just popping out unexpectedly m8. You need to reach a creepy atmosphere for a jump to work first. Idk what horror movies youve been watching m8, but this has been going on for years.

I can completely respect not liking them. It's a niche genre, to be sure. I like them personally. But then again, they're what got me into the horror genre, so that's fueled mostly by nostalgia.

Going to IMDB for horror reviews is like going to The New Yorker for reviews of hardcore and metal albums. If you're interested in anything fringe you need to find an educated community on the subject. I like IMDB for most other film genres I watch, but not for horror because I watch waaaaay too much of it and have specific tastes.
>>
>>690508482
It is shit though.
>>
>>690508482
Of course it's shit. Spare me your faggot ass nostalgia, it doesn't do ONE noteworthy thing that hasn't already been done by a dozen other films and if that wasn't bad enough, it's a franchise film it's only reason for existing is shitting out endless amounts of sequels and reboots.

Seriously, you fucking suck. Go watch Saw 1-14 you fucking faggot.
>>
I think "The Descent" is as good as horror movies get, and I care a lot about horror movies.

Horror movies are about to be wiped completely off the map by horror VR which will be about 10000 times scarier than any movie ever could be.

I still hellraizer is the best horror movie. It's freaky, almost lovecraftian. The practical effects are fantastic.

The second i see a CGI monsters I'm instantly not afraid. Shit is just so cartoonish and fake. Terminator 2 is the only CGI movie that actually looked good, because they had a reason to use the effect.
