More comedy than horror but I really liked Krampus. Despite being a horror comedy it didn't make a fool of itself like something like Scary Movie. The comedy was subtle and made me chuckle.

It speaks about the lawless state, anarchism, self-proclamed powers, etc...

Some zombies here and there, but thats not the real subject of the movie.

I have a fetish for watching all the slashers I remember being on big VHS boxes from when I was a kid and would sneak into the horror section of the local Movie Gallery. YouTube has a ridiculous amount of old and/or obscure horror if you don't mind the poor video quality and know what you're looking for. Recently, It Follows, Sinister 2, We Are Still Here, and The Visit have been my fav mainstream horror films. The Green Inferno is good for what it, but it's not for everyone.

28 Days is one of all time faves. Look into the [REC] movies, and watch Quarantine, which is also tied to the REC plot.

If you haven't already, watch 28 Weeks. It's not as good as 28 Days, but it's good.

All of the movies in that list surprised me and stuck with me in some way.

Can't remember the number but I think it was 188 Arletta Avenue. Yeah a home address is a bad thing to name your movie. But I really enjoyed it. What made it scary was that it had a similar feel to The Strangers, in the sense that it could totally happen at any time. If you don't mind Found Footage films. I highly suggest it.

Personally I only watch horror films made before the year 2000. 80s slasher films are my shit, I rewatch all the classic slasher franchises all the time. Also the Hammer Dracula films and black & white classic horror films are the best.

I find that, if you're looking for horror, don't actually look at the horror genre. Surrealism can evoke a far greater sense of dread than just the tension of a killer or monster sneaking up on some teen.

People have a hard time coping with strange angles, outlandish concepts, disjointed visuals, and twisted proportions. All components of most surrealist films.

The latest movies i have really dug were Blue Ruin (might as well be a horror movie), It Follows and Starry Eyes. All three make you uncomfortable and that is what matters
