314 USD.

I hate my life. Trying to get through college and get to a point where I can finally move out my parents house. It's also the impossible though. What's stopping me is the cost of college and the cost of maintenance on my car. I owe my mother over 1500 dollars in car cost and don't even get me started on college cost.

I don't even make 500 dollars in two weeks.
This is a living hell. I really wish I listened to my parents when they told me to study hard.

Money that you don't have immediate access to (whether by choice or otherwise) except for a planned event or emergency; and often persists somewhere where it can grow through interest or investments.

If you keep it under your mattress then you're slowly losing money because inflation makes it worth less and less over time.

Savings is irrelevant to anyone who barely has enough income to just pay the bills every month; which sadly is many, many people.

You say the word "country" a lot.

But I must say I was surprised by the $50k figure, and sure enough simply google search confirms median salary for high school teachers at $56k/year. I really don't understand all that bitching and moaning coming from US teachers then.

I don't know about the entire world but across Europe the differences are way too big between countries to addressed together. Roughly, in Scandinavian countries, teachers are treated as kings (often north of EUR 70k), in Central/Eastern Europe like dirt (roundabout EUR 10k) and in most of the west somewhere in-between (typically EUR 20-40k).

I'm not the guy you were talking to, but I'm a millennial that chose to forgo college and got up-jumped by a relative into a median wage (13/hr) job.

I'm playing it smart and keeping my living expenses extremely low. I know the value of a dollar, and I'm experiencing the "poor youth" you speak of right now.

Its sad how there were two people ready to just outright dismiss the wisdom in your post. I had 6mo. opportunity at my job to start saving, but like many I blew it on drugs and whatnot.

Then I got smart. I'm saving and living off just barely what I need to scrape by. I have just more than a few hundred in savings right now, but I know that through diligence, accepting the shittiness of life at the moment, saving, and forbearance and perseverance those hundreds will turn to thousands, and in turn hopefully to tens of thousands.

Everyone concerned with drugs, money, friends, pussy... look at the world around you. You should start saving, and you should do it now. One day you'll find yourself up shit creek without a money paddle to find shelter.

Respect, anon.

My savings are going to hit $0 once my tax-back comes in and I can afford a new/good car. Currently have a broken Fairmont I'm trying to sell and a broken Sonata I'm waiting to get repaired. (Clutch is fucking expensive on labour, so I'm waiting on a workshop to get back to me for a free install.)

Having some real savings would be nice, but at this point in time, that's not happening. Would be nice if work gave more than 20 hours a week.

And it's that attitude, the "put one foot in front of the other even though all indicators tell me to stop", that will take you to where you want to be. Trust me. I've been there. I've done it. Nothing is more important than the dogged belief that you need to just keep taking those steps forward even if the going is hard right now.

I reflect on those days now and realise I could easily have quit and no one would have blamed me. But I didn't. And I didn't quit because I was promised s future. I had no promises. No guarantees. Just the belief that what I was doing was the right thing to do (work hard, get educated).

If you can do that, you'll be laughing in 10 years and you'll wonder how you ever had to budget down to the dollar to survive - which seems like a lifetime ago for me now, but I did it.

Because global finances are looking super shit right now. Bad news everywhere.

Buying now is like catching s falling knife. And look of youre going to buy and hold forever, it won't matter too much. But you can probably better spend your money when prices come down a bit - which pretty much every man and their dog I'd expecting over the next 12 months.

Personally I got 100k ready to go, but fucked if I'm putting it in property right now.
