as a stoner, i like to find hidden (or not-so-hidden) subtexts in movies. i've blown several of my friends' minds by explaining how the wholoe movie is really just one 90 minute bugs bunny/daffy duck skit. thats why clive owen is always chewing carrots, and paul giomatti has a weird lisp.

I wasn't a big fan of it, and the story was just the most thrown together deus ex machina bullshit at every turn.

But when they undock the Missouri. Something that's not even close to possible, but it's completely epic none the less. I guess because growing up in Mobile, AL. I always say the U.S.S. Alabama and imagined riding it's rotting hull into battle. That scene in the movie touched a childhood memory.

Other than that, shit movie with shit acting and terrible WWII veteran cameos. Don't watch it.

But it's not spoofing 80s movies or culture, the crux of the thing is whether its depiction of that culture is positive appreciation (as in pastiche/homage) or negative deprecation (as in satire/parody/spoof), seems pretty apparent to me it's in the former category

I think it's a spoof of the genre, a satire of homages, but done in a certain pastiche.

All the words used so far are correct, but they describe different elements of the film. You're all correct in everything except your judgement of eachother.

Vampire road movie from long before emos... From that glorious era after Bela Lugosi imitators had gone down, you could include the Hammer Carmilla films and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, up until the genre got ruined by Anne Rice's faggy vampires, I don't think it was that many years after they made The Hunger.

At least Vamps got a better run than werewolves or zombies before their genre got ruined.
