I like dogs don't get me wrong, they're generally much smarter than cats too (especially if you get one of those medium sized breeds), but I like cats more because they're more independant.

At least in a litterbox, it's all confined, they cover it up for the most part and unless you get a bad and/or stupid cat (or one who wants revenge at you) you don't have to worry about feces on the floor.

But if I were to have a dog instead, I would get a REAL breed, something that is friendlier and one I don't have to worry going apeshit and attacking someone. The problem is not with pit bulls specifically, but with all functional bull dogs.

Fighting dogs, bred to grip something and not release.

When they get some blood in their mouth, instinct takes over and they just bite and hold repeatedly. The injuries from this are much more severe than other types of dog.

With equal training, or equal lack of training, such a dog will always be more dangerous than other types of dog.

This is the problem with pit bulls. It doesn't help that the type of person who wants a pit bull is also the type of person who is probably going to be an awful owner, but even well trained pit bulls in healthy families have *much* higher fatality statistics than other types of dog.

The reason people have trouble understanding their intelligence is because they don't mimic our behaviors as much as other animals we perceive as intelligent just because they appear to be mimicking us, like cats for example. In reality a cat is not mimicking us at all, and a chicken isn't either, but after you start to decode their behavior you realize how brilliant they really are.
