Do the Brent Mason mod, you're nearly there. Drop a Strat pup in the middle; you've got the humbuggy neck and tele bridge pups. I've done this to my Teles. Now I have Strat, Tele and Les Paul tones in one guitar.

Strats have a lot thinner tone than a tele so personally I like a tele a lot more compared to a strat because of that but it basically comes down to what style of music you mainly play

I have both Tele and Strat and I can safely say I would never trade my tele for a strat. Teles have so much character and a much better feel.

I recommend keeping your tele and buying another tel with a different set of pickups even a cheap Mexican tele can sound like hot tits after some new electronics and wiring job. Also learning how to wire pickups can give you endless amounts of tone options.
