All I'm going to explain is why we feel we need to keep our guns.

The general argument for taking away guns is to get them out of the hands of criminals and terrorists. Fine. I think most people agree this is good.

The problem is that we also don't trust our government. This is engrained in our DNA, programmed in hard and deep. We're not raised by crazy whack job rednecks - those of us who support gun rights - that is, support the Constitution of the US - are actually really well-educated. But I digress.

We don't trust our government to take away guns from just terrorists. That's the problem. We don't trust them to not turn on us. But why? In what modern society would a first-world power government ever turn on it's citizens?

This is where you come in.

You did. The Crown did. It turned its guns on its own people - us. But this isn't surprising: history shows that this has happened before. Yes, currently everyone and their mother trumpets out how Australia hasn't had any mass shootings so good for them. They're the exception. The rule is Russia. Or the Ukraine, pre WWII. Or China, either now or prior to the Boxer rebellion.

Anyway, the foremost superpower at the time - the UK - took away the rights of the colonists and specifically their right to have guns prior to instituting all kinds of laws to get the Colonists in line.

And you wonder why we don't trust people taking away our guns, and why we cling to the idea that we should be able to defend ourselves.
