Abandoning runts seems like the kind of animal behavior that might slip through, especially since runts tend to be sickly and short-lived anyway, but most of those are pretty specific to certain animals. Considering the fluffies were designed to be the perfect pets, letting them have the worst properties of each species would be absolutely ludicrous.
