It's not as good as the book, but I can still feel what I felt when I first watched it like, five years ago. It kills me inside because I used to be like this dude, and in a way, it feels like I'm watching myself. A NEET that hasn't left his home in four years gets tired of his lifestyle but cannot muster the confidence to change it. One of his old high school acquaintances moves in next door, a loser otaku pervert who is considering killing himself, and the two try to make an erogame to change their lives. They fail miserably. The main character then falls deeper, becoming a drug addict, hardcore lolicon, and plays MMORPG's 24/7 to escape reality. While this is all going on there's also a girl who tries saving him from himself, but he pushes her away constantly, being afraid to trust her after she sees him for what he is.
It's a wild ride. The anime is different from the manga and book in various aspects, however. Mainly in regards to his relationship with Misaki, the girl. The book, which is true canon, is based on the author's actual life's story. He personally hasn't recovered from his previous lifestyle.

It's also meant to be more slice of life, so if that's not your thing that's cool too. But it's not an anime you can go into and expect the story to resolve or move at a fast pace.
