Whenever I was in my senior year of high school, I would stay awake all night watching YouTube videos. I'd just surf YouTube and discover all sorts of new people and their talents. The musical acts appealed to me the most, because I was thinking about posting my own music to YouTube.

Julia Nunes and Christina Grimmie inspired me to "go for it" and begin creating and uploading. Even if you don't like the songs she covered - it was pretty obvious (especially to musicians) that she practiced a lot and improved her vocal technique constantly.

I was subscribed to her channel, but I fell out of the loop with what she was doing. I happened to catch her on The Voice one day, and it was a big shock - just because I didn't expect a humble YouTube singer to crossover to television like that. Next thing I know, people around me are recognizing her from television, and I knew her more from YouTube.

I can't say I loved every song she covered (though I really loved her takes on Christmas songs), but she was inspiring because she kept creating and improving her craft.

She was also super kind and helpful - whenever she started using Logic, I reached out to her and asked her a bunch of questions about the learning curve. She was really helpful and geeky about recording technology.

It's a shame that we won't continue to see her grow - that we won't see her artistry expand. The deaths of Prince and Bowie hit me really hard - and now Christina's death has hit me hard. Now, I'm in no way saying that she was on par artistically with Prince or Bowie - but she was positive, inspiring, and talented.

I'm considering donating to the Go Fund Me. They were only asking for $4,000 and I'm not even sure that it was initially started by a family member - just somebody wanting to help out.
I never bought any of Christina's music or attended her concerts - so I think the best thing I can do now is donate money to her family.
