Saw him play in Oaktown sometime in the early '90's. Came out in a loincloth which I thought was hilarious. The show erupted after a while when he ran off the stage and started beating the heads of a few teenage punks. He jumped up on the bar and started smashing bottles and kicking shit around. People with bloody faces.. The Oakland police had to raid the show and shut it down. Real chaos. Made it out a side exit along with his bandmates near the stage. Have to say it was one of the better shows I've seen

Punk itself was a shock value tool. It was invented by a fashion designer as something that was anti-authority and offensive. The pistols knew that controversy leads to exposure. GG embodied the idea of acting way more fucked up than he actually was. And he was pretty fucked up in RL too. Plus, he didn't really seem to do it for the money, as opposed to some earlier first wave acts.

Just because you got into punk for the sound doesn't mean things that go outside the norm aren't punk. I see more shades of GG in the first wave than any of these newer crunch grunge faggots.
