I went from +2.50 on my left, -1.75 on my right, and i had astigmatism on both.
Now i have fucking perfect vision

Cause it requires upkeep every decade, every upkeep surgery will cost more and have to be done by the same exact doctor, if you fuck up and miss the surgery any degradation will be permanent and the upkeep surgery will only keep you at your current level, studies are popping up that the newer versions actually lead to color loss after 30ish years, beyond 50 you can't get the surgeries anymore on health insurance as its shown the returns just aren't there after that age, after 50 you're eyes will tank to worse than they previous, i just plain don't want my eyes skin cut off and have to unflinchingly stare at a laser every 10 years and shell out piss tons of money, beyond that every opinion i've gotten so far tells me i look better with glasses, i can just wear disposable contact lenses as they're super fucking cheap and they make these nice travel cases for them so i got like 20 pairs in a case 1/10 the size of my cellphone. Oh and transition lenses or polarized contact lenses cause fuck the suns harmful rays.

I know it was kind of a compliment but feelsbadman, because I know everyone else thinks that too and just doesnt say it.

and I smoke too much ganj to wear contacts, shit drys my eyes out

I've been wanting to get this surgery for awhile now. My vision is fucking terrible my glasses look like I'm wearing thick goggles and if I get contacts they have to be special thick ones that are uncomfortable as hell. Unfortunately all my money is going to school and my parents so it'll be a good bit before I can afford it
>>
>>688469016
The only side effects i had was dry eyes for about a month. But using eye gel 2 times a day i did not feel anything
>>
>>688469016
Don't cheap out, laser cut the eyelash, don't use the blade. Get a custom map of your eye, they can be way off otherwise.

You will lose night vision, funny glare driving at night is possible too. Everything else posted in this thread is pretty much bs

After the operation you will be out for the rest of the day, maybe take an extra day at home if you drive a lot. That is it,
>>

So I can't do anything at night then? I like to do a lot of night driving so does that mean I'd have to stop after getting laser eye surgery so I don't get myself killed or something?

night vision loss was a problem 20 years ago

nowdays the lasers are really modern and its not a problem anymore
>>
>>688469319
This. Only complication runs a 1/1000 chance and can be instantly fixed by a single 10 minute doctor visit for $25.
LASIK on the other hand causes dry eyes(100% cause that flap they cut also cuts the nerves in the area reducing the eyes ability to feel dryness and thus produce tears), possible visual acuity problems (1/500 and then out of those case 80% are permanent fuck ups), PROVEN it weakens your cornea in ways that can't be fixed, the scar for the skin flap can straight up tear (1/500 in the first decade alone) fucking you over permanently, infections of the cornea( 1/500), nightvision loss (100%), produces shit results compared to PRK, actually stops you from being put into awesome jobs like astronauts or jet pilots, prevents army service except for grunt work cause you're a liability now as that flap can fly off from excessive forced or blunt trauma.
Hell there's a reason PRK is the ONLY form form of corrective eye surgery the armed forces want you to get and even pay for fighter pilots to get it so they have PERFECT vision. Also PRK doesn't fucking deteriorate requiring upkeep surgeries every decade from the same doc its literally one and done with no downtime needed.
>>
>>688470135
I got it done 10 years ago, it was still a problem then.

and I am not talking "can't drive at night" shit, I am talking about some extra glare and telling myself the next car I buy is going to have those fucking xenons

>>688470135
The modern lazers actually cause the loss of nightvision. 20 years ago it was merely stars and glare but due to the frequency of the lazer required and you having to stare at it bleached some cones and rods permanently hindering nightvision.
>>
>>688470763
no idiot modern lasers have anti nightvision loss Technology
look it up dumbass
>>
>>688470741
Its more common than you think. Around 1-5.
>>
>>688470840
I did you dumbass. It only prevents wholesale loss otherwise it would be entirely fucking gone along with some ability for retinal diffusion permanently fuckint daytime vision too. Its the only reason they can legally allow its use on humans as the loss is "minimal" at 40%. Sorta like how mcdonalds beef is "100%" beef because it contains 60% beef.

I'm looking into PRK because the whole flap never fully healing thing terrifies me. It'd probably never be an issue but I know that with my neurosis any time i touched my eyes or even thought about them I'd remember the flap being there and get uncomfortable. I guess the downside with PRK is possibly nightmarish recovery for the first few weeks to month... and not getting the full benefit for up to 6 months. Anyone done the PRK thing?

its not that bad though, its pretty annoying like having dirty glasses which you cant clean but you can still see and drive and do anything at night.
but it IS annoying. at night and especially while the sunset, its a strange inbetween-feeling. wearing glasses is annoying all day though so its still better than that.
>>
>>688466254
I wear glasses so I can show off my titanium Jaguar frames.
>>
>>688471522
Its less than a month now. New eye drops we've had for around 11 years during surgery cut that shit down massively AND eliminated the possibility of corneal haze (the one possible downside it had that could be permanent). that flap also seems to come off for literally no reason. They say its only with excessive force like saying getting punched really hard or being in a plane crash (why the military HATES lasik.) but i see people coming in from sleeping on their side mooshing their face all night or from braking a little too hard. Best one was some guy went skydiving (whole reason he got it as the glasses got in the way of the goggles) a year after surgery and the force of the chute opening and catching him popped them both open 10,000 feet up. He just sorta let the ground take him and accept he shattered shins on landing cause he couldn't see.
>>
>>688466254
Fear of making things worse.

I have -4.75 on right, -4 on left and eye floaters in both.
>>
>>688472022
Yes. Underlying issues that can deform the cornea are major issues and can entirely eliminate you from candidacy. The process of removing parts of the cornea inherently weaken the organ and having something like glaucoma will just lead to the cornea not being able to withstand that pressure as effectively.
>>
>>688472469
end urself pussyfag
>>
>>688466254
I did PRK 5 months ago and unfortunately vision on my right eye can't be called perfect and my left eye is still fucked. It gets a fog effect whenever light falls on my eye, may it be natural light or from a light bulb. and it although I can individually focus with the left eye, when the right one opens, the focus is lost and it gets blurry. Like I said, its fucked up.
I miss my fucking glasses even though i had 5,5 and 6,5 .
>>
>>688472469
Why the floaters. You got some kinds condition? Cause we don't take non-eye normies.

>>
I've got my 2nd consultation this Friday (PRK, not LASIK). I'm scared as shit, but not having to deal with glasses/optometrists for a while seems awesome. My only vision defect is astigmatism (no near/far sightedness) with about -3.00 cylinder in each eye. I can function without glasses so long as i'm not reading, but everything being slightly blurry sucks. Really not sure if I should take the risk though...
>>
I have one eye unlike you normies with 2, and I'd rather not risk losing it due to botched surgery
>>
>>688472805
Then it shouldn't be a problem. If you have shit like, say, excessive pressure but not actual medical condition worthy that causes those floaters then that would be an issue as again the cornea is being weakened by the removal of layers making the surgery reduce its ability to hold that pressure back.

Or detached cones and rods, issues with the vitreous humour, degeneration of a certain artery inutero that can occasionally leave behind cell matter, and retinal detachment.
Basically if you're over 40 and have a good bit thats normal. If you're 20 and have a good bit that might be an issue but could be a few other things.
>>
>>688466254
It is recommended not to get lasik til late 20s or older. Your eyes and skull don't fully develope and shape until around 27-28. A handful of people get worse vision from age 17-25 and it corrects itself around age 28 almost fully.

If you are one of those peopel and you jump the gun you just wasted money and you will need to get lasik again in your future when you could have not had lasik and had nearly perfect vision.

>>
>>688473553
Do you have astigmatism? Is it bad? (high prescription?) This can make it difficult (or impossible) to find contacts that fit.

Also, fun fact: Contact wearers have higher long-term risk of infections than LASIK patients
>>
>>688466254
Lasik has severe plausible complications, shit that could happen 10 years after the procedure

Just read the horror story, i will have a better patience of mind by just using regular glasses for reading and watching tv, knowing that my sight wont deteriorate

Also another possible complication are halos, that alone would drive me and my ocd crazy
>>
>>688467505
I like my eyesight to be perfect at all times, or at the very least when i want it to be
So in that respect regular ass glasses will always win it for me
>>
>>688474107
This. Though the infection rate is only higher by technicality due to lifetime wearing versus the major risk of lasik infection due to the flap eventually "healing" closed.
>>

>>688468284
Keratoconus is only managed with rigid gas contacts

>>
>>688474107

>, i can just wear disposable contact lenses as they're super fucking cheap and they make these nice travel cases for them so i got like 20 pairs in a case
Always be careful with contacts though, even if they are approved for sleeping with, never do it that only increases the risk of infection and cornea ulcers

Also always take good care of your hands hygiene before manipulating them and uses the cases for no longer that a month get new ones. There are bacteria, ameba and protozoa that could fuck up your eyes so bad worst case scenerio you lose vision or the eye ball

>>
>>688477918
Ha! Nah man. You're vision will be fluctuating constantly from 18-28. Until your skull stops changing shape. You get it done at 20 you're fucking yourself later when your skulls changes shape down the road and you gotta get it again and pray to god you have enough material left for another surgery.
>>
>>688484071
All of my research has led me to choosing PRK... It's superior in all ways but one: recovery. Lasik you sit up and have 20/20 (or better) vision, PRK there's far more discomfort or even pain and it takes weeks (if not months) to reach full visual acuity. But no eye flap, less night vision issues, etc...
>>
>>688484071
PRK. Zero risk beyond the bandage contact not fitting right which is a $25 10 minute doctor visit and doesn't actually do anything beyond feel itchy. Infections are always possible but due to the nature of the procedure are around 1/1000 and can't lead to permanent sight damage like LASIK. They don't even cut anything, just a small lazer.
>>
>>688466254

>>688466254

>>
>>688487138
Military doesn't do LASIK. They do PRK, which is vastly better they don't have to worry if you taking a bonk here and there will make you go blind in the field as your eye flap pops open.
>>
>>688487891
Still, would've been better than wearing glasses. And free, can't beat that. Considering I had just came back from deployment at the time I would've been first on the list and had it done asap.
