I think the lesson here is that it isn't so much about the program you use, but rather the integrity of the network that it leverages. Making some progress. I've found a program that I guess routes the messages through a proxy and allows you to continue using the older messenger app. It apparently has support for versions down to 5 and the version I've got is 8. However, I'm a bit worried by the (unsupported) status in the patcher. We'll see what can be done.

Grave news,

Microsoft's servers do not accept requests from the older protocols sent out by outdated versions of MSN Messenger. I'd have to resort to some really wild trickery to get their servers to think I was using Messenger 2012 in order to allow a login from version 8. You can see the more detailed reasoning in the picture.

Lime wire was great, so was Kazaa, unfortunately never got to use Napster :-(

Thanks! That was just over 9 years ago, so I was 12 at the time. I put it together in Windows Movie maker and had a hard time getting the bastard to render because my computer had so few resources. It was an outdated hand-me-down machine, but I managed to get it done. Wish I had a faster computer and better camera at the time because I did enjoy making little projects like that.
