Ask a vacuum repair man anything

I don't even know what to ask...

Do you fix Vacuums all day everyday? I don't think I could handle that.
>>
Fuck you?
>>
What's the most expensive vacuum you ever fixed?

What's the worst thing you ever found in a vacuum bag?

Have you ever tried sticking your dick in a vacuum?

are they harder or easier to fix now that most are bagless

Most expensive, Kirby Avalir which is a few grand

Found this fat chick's dirty thong inside a fan housing once, put it in a plastic bag and gave it back to her, reaction was priceless

And no, that seems painful..
>>
>>688353840

Probably the bearing in the motor got corroded and that's the sound you're hearing, run it till it dies cuz the only real fix is replacing the motor anyways

This is my current vacuum (aside from the central).

It's bagless and I've washed and reused the filter for a few years now. I hate bags, I like to dump it out after each vacuum.

I personally have asthma and allergys, and Bagless vacuums are the worst thing possible for them, you rely on seals which leak alot of what you pick up back into the air, look into a Miele, they are a little pricey, but your allergys will thank you 1000x over

i stole a fucking hoover carpet cleaner from home cheapo and now the thing stopped spinning.

i took it completely apart and found that the gear box had water in it already somehow and the bearings had rusted, stopping it from spinning. i tried to degunk it and then turned it back on...it worked for a bit then stopped again.

do i have to just replace the bearings?

You would be surprised, basically anything under $200 is a use it until it breaks and buy a new one because most of the times they are not cost affective to repair, but when you get up into 600-1500 dollar machines, most of the time it's worth repairing then
>>
>>688354731

We had a Filter Queen growing up. That bitch was a war horse and sucked like a champ. Do they make something like that? Bagless, cheap filter, scents and shit to put in the exhaust?

I had a Miele and it was ok, Have a dyson now and it's pretty underwhelming.
>>
Should I get new Dyson DC40 for around $150 (about half of retail price in my area) or something else?
>>
>>688363877
Regular cleaning, disassembling the separator and washing it with soap and water (about ever 5 or 6 times you vacuum) as well as washing any pre filters every week or so, and replacing both the pre filters and hepa filters yearly, alot more work than most people want to do to there vacuum.
>>
Do you do work on brooms, too?
>>
>>688364324
Chinese manufacturing my friend, and believe it or not, Hoover really makes the best machine for the job, Bissells carpet cleaners are a joke, my store dosent even sell them because they get used once and they are broken.
>>
>>688364413
There are alot of issues with the DC40, I see at least 2 a week with warranty issues, I personally don't like Dyson, there products or as a company, but if you have to have a dyson, a 07, 14, 50, or 65 are your best investment
>>
>>688364392
Yeah, fuck Dysons. They feel like cheap plastic, suck about as good as a $100 vacuum. My previous Kenmore was better.
>>
>>688364392
Filter queen is still in buisness, and still make vacuums. They aren't nearly as good as the old school ones, but they still aren't bad, I would recommend a Miele to a filter queen customer as an upgrade, but seeing as you have had one and are looking to go bagless, possible look into a Sirena, it is a water filtered vacuum like the old rainbows, will provide the same level of filtration as your old filter queen, without having to replace filter cones. You can also put scent liquids into the water to make the exaust work as an air freshener l
>>
>>688365026
What sort of issues? Are they straight up shit or mostly user error?
>>
>>688364616
No, but I do sell them, we have a running joke, when people come in expecting to spend like $40 on a "good vacuum" we hand them a broom
>>
>>688365553

personally id think it would be, but as long as you have oldies or those people who always stick with a old vaccum that uses those rubber bands to spin the motor, i guess youll always have customers
>>
>>688367007
It's a happy medium, and there are still plenty of company's who make bagged vacuums, you just have to go to a specialty store to get them, the reason behind that is because stores like walmart, cosco, target ect don't want to have to carry bags, they would rather put TVs in that location and make more money
>>
>>688367007

And our average repair ticket is anywhere from 40 to 150, but they can get much higher depending on the model

hair stuck in the rotary parts, or the rubber band breaking

Newer vacuums are starting to use serpentine drive belts with a metal/Kevlar lining

>>
>>688369663
Bagged vacuums are better because they trap about 20 times more of what you pick up inside the machine. Bagless machines leak fairly bad and throw alot of what you pick up from the floor into the air. Also bagged are cheaper to operate because every Bagless manufacturer required you change your filters yearly or you will void your warranty, the average filter set ranges from $35-$125, when about $25 in bags will get a family of 4 through a year. I personally like the Royal UR30075 as a good entry level vacuum, they normally run about $200

Hi, I have the dyson in the pic. It is not sucking that well. I got it for free from someone that was throwing it away.

The first thing I did was remove the small tube part near the base and see if there was anything in it. Nothing.

Then I looked at the brush and noticed that there was a lot of hair wrapped around it. I removed the hair with a scissors. The brush is fine now.

The hose that allows for tighter crevice cleaning is not working and the vacuum is sort of picking up stuff, but not that well.

What do you think could be the problem. How can I fix it. What are some things that you do to refurb vacs? What can I do to get it to work again? Share some tips, anon.
>>
>>688373954
We do do house calls for service and instalation on Central vacuums, never had anything like that happening , but I do have a good story. We were going to a lady's house to do an estimate on installation, she told us that there be a key under the mat because she would be at work, so we showed up, let ourselves in, to discover her daughter(probably mid 20s, 6/10) walking out of the bathroom naked lmao really the only interesting thing that's happened during install/repair calls

Check the inlet underneath where the brush roller is, if that's clear, take off the inlet cover on the side, pinch the two yellow tabs and pull up, it should slide out, check there, if still nothing, remove the dust canister, and down near the bottom there should be a red tab, push backwards while pulling up on the hose, it should come off, drop a dime through it, if everything checks out, then it's your separator itself that is clogged , take it apart and let it soak in warm soapy water and scrub it with a scrub brush, leave outside to try overnight, should fix the issue

I've seen some horror shows, I've seen panties, bras, lingerie, socks, shoe laces, condoms, pens, pencils, a syringe(no needle luckily) enough hair to fill a swimming pool, and one or two cockroach infested vacuums(which are fucking terrifying when they just fall out everywhere)
