What does /b/ think about death penalty? personally I think it's great... will argument against if anyone responds
>>688083347
i personallythink they should have a game were they roll the wheel with like 30 choices and each person must compete to finish it,first one to get 100 points get to life for another 2 weeks and gets whatever food they want for the next 2 days. but if u fail u die 3 people enter only 1 wins
>>688083717
also all should be broadcast in a premium live show for millions to see, like death race
>>688083717
hunger games
in my opinion, there are some people in this world that can't be helped, that won't learn.
I think that the death penalty offers an escape. Living with what they've done is often a much greater punishment
>>688086116
but who knows what happens after death though? some religious people will obviously think they're gonna burn in hell for the crime they've done, and i guess they would like it to happen asap
Have to consider what's worse. Execution or knowing that you're in prison until you die.
>>688083347
Wait till you get caught doing something...minds will be changed. Only a matter of time.
>>688086462
Living life in prison is worse. Five years was enough for me. One second was enough for me.
>>688083347
eye for an eye makes the world bind
while actually capital punishment is supposed to be a detterant, but look at the usa, capital punishment in a lot of places but also loads of killings and serial killers.
despite, ironically, in strict islamic countries, like saudi arabia, where they have capital and corporal punishment, you have few thieves, paedophiles, rapists and murderers, the deterrent works there. I assume it being bonded with morality rather than a deterrent and punishment.
>>688083347
I like the concept, but in practice the way it is now, I am against it and I'll tell you why.
Giving someone the death penalty costs (in America) millions of dollars. It is actually cheaper to provide the convicted with life in jail. *I am too drunk to provide sources, just google it.
If the death penalty was cheap and swift, I would be for it, but only in circumstances where the evidence is 100% undeniable. IE gunpowder residue on the actors hands, video/witnesses present for the crime, etc. But the way things are now, the process takes decades to complete and literally costs the country millions of taxpayer dollars. No thanks, whatever is cheapest and removes the threat from society is fine with me
>>688083347
I don't want the state deciding if someone should live or die, that and the system makes mistakes, I'd take keeping murders in prison for life over executing them with the change one of the people put to death is innocent. Plus it costs the state a shit load of money since they constantly have to hold hearings for appeals and all the other legal proceedings necessary to actually goth rough with it
Soft option, the gen pop method.
Give the con a snitch/pedo jacket and send him off into general population.
Technically no death penalty on the books, and an investigation is a shit load cheaper than an execution.
>>688083347
I'm not opposed to people dieing as a consequence of breaking the law
but I am not comfortable with the government making the decision about who lives and who dies in my name
I think exile would be a better alternative
>>688084916
Battle Royale
>>688087054
It's widely used in places like Saudi Arabia. You can have several dozen executions a year there. In the USA only the worst get it and even then they sit on death row for several years. Beyond that there are many states that have banned the practice so you can just commit your crime somewhere else and not even have the possibility over your head.
>>688083347
Why not take 50 death row prisoners at the same time and have them all fight like fucking gladiators in an arena, and the victor is given their freedom. Market it as some pay per view event, making the justice system an untold amount of money, all while decreasing the prison population that it needs to support. Others can participate as well in a bid for freedom, such as lifers or prisoners with extreme sentences (20+ years). Or just anyone who wanted to gamble their lives for freedom.
here in norway we don't practice death penalty, and the we can only stay in prison for 21 years...it's supposed to be so people can "improve" through those years and then be released in the community to be an outstanding citizen... fucking bullshit
>>688083347
The government is not 100% correct 100% of the time, which means they're killing innocent people while guilty people go free. It's also more expensive to kill them and it does not and has not ever deterred a single murder. There's no good reason for it to exist, which is why virtually all sensible countries/states have done away with it long ago.
>>688083347
Mandatory death penalty for any crime no matter what it was, murder? Death penalty, tax evasion? Death penalty, dui? Death penalty
Remove the entire judicial and prison systems and spend the money on health and education
>>688083347
I wish my country had dead penalty. Prisons are overpopulated, and crimes are only going up. I hate this fucking place to hell and back
If a murderer is proven guilty by footage and/or DNA or some other undeniable method other than circumstancial evidence... they should be executed hours after their second trial. The method of execution should be the manner of death for their victim.
Some people get the death penalty and then wait decades for the execution eating and costing tax payers every single day. Buillshit.
The wise state of California should have executed ol Charlie in 1971 but instead they have fed, medicated, housed and protected him for decades...why?
>>688088641
Yeah end someone's life over something retarded. What about rape? So that every psycho ex can accuse a guy of rape just to watch him fry? Back to your post at the Gulag, Igor.
>>688088641
>spend the money on health and education
and who would be alive to benefit from these government programs?
Prisons are not about rehabilitation, they are about private sector money and cheap labor, the system is designed to keep you in there and if you ever get out you do what you can to get back in, inmates never change
>>688088234
how is it more expensive? the methods are all cheap. Are you talking about the endless appeals and lawyer fees? those cost a ton and are oft cited as a reason to not do it. While it is basically the whole reason. It generates big profits in the legal scene cause that shits not cheap.
>>688087154
Ageed, except for the ones who kill AFTER the life sentence. No chance to re-hab them so ZAP ZAP time IMO
>>688083347
Why end some dudes life when you can make him waste away in solitary for the rest of their life knowing that there is no hope, no salvation, no way to ever be free again.
I would much rather keep people in jail for life, Well worth the expense to watch them slowly go insane.
(Oh, and none of this I'mma convert to religion and write a bunch of books and shit kinda fags, In my world, you do something to earn death, you get locked into a 3x3 foot room for 24 hours a day till you die kinda shit.)
>>688083347
It begins.
Most people who are willing to commit a crime worthy of capital punishment no longer care about the consequences of their actions.
>>688089216
>>688083347
I agree with death penalty

wow what an edgy badass
>>688089410
>>688089117
that is part of the problem in developed nations
they can't decide if their prisons are rehabilitation centers or punitive detention centers
either can be effective
but trying to do both nullifies any benefits from either method
hitler deserves the death penalty

>>688089543
>>688089586

Let's bring back gladiator games for prisoners who are in for life. or maybe they want to shorten their sentence. Then revenue gained for spectators can benefit the state or pay for prisoners meals rather than tax payers paying for their meals.
>>688089637
I dont think the government should be killing its own citizenry. Especially when it just boils down to it being a instrument of revenge.
And you have countries likes the US who are too incompetent to be making such decisions for its own population.

>>688089695
>>688083347
It's biblical revenge for frustrated cucks.
The amount of appeals it results in is an unneeded strain on our justice system.
It's cheaper to just keep people in jail their whole lives.
dozens of innocent men have been exonerated after their execution due to DNA evidence, so clearly we've been killing innocent people as well.
>>688089769
>>688089835
>>688087116
Absolutely right, Anon. With the death penalty there are automatic rights of appeal, with the state bearing the legal costs. Sentencing someone to death costs the taxpayer way more than a long prison term.
Plus, capital murder trials normally have a jury. when the jury knows that convicting can or will mean death to the accused, then the jury is less likely to convict. Murderers have gone free because the jury wasn't "certain enough" to convict knowing that execution would be the result.
>>688085494
and you think the government should have the power to decide who those people are? Most those people are in the fucking government.
>>688089087

You scared about the cp on your hdd and your torrents you are downloading illegally :^)

Do not understand how most Christian conservatives are pro-death penalty when the Old Testament is meant to be ignored in favor of the New.
I suppose there's an inkling of uncertainty about the existence of Hell.
I think they spend too much money on it. Just blast them In the head and move on
>>688089950
>>688089195
I never really thought about people that kill while in prison. Wow, for once /b convinced me of a position through reasonable discussion
>>688086116
yeah but who cares, at least they are dead and no longer a threat to society
>>688087595
Also it's been proven statistically that capitol punishment is NOT a deterrent for crime.
Criminals don't plan on getting caught.
>>688083347
over the years i've gone from "dude a bullet costs less than a dollar" to valuing our dignity
don't get me wrong- I don't care at all what happens to these guys. But I don't want to be the ones pulling the plug. put them on an island, let them kill each other, i don't care. but not us.
at the end of the day, we are no greater than them by killing them as well. we are just glorified killers.
i think we make the mistake in allowing the death penalty of seeing only black and white (racism kek), but truthfully we are a lighter shade of grey, and we are not free from being wrong either
>>688090095
>>688088234
>It's also more expensive to kill them and it does not and has not ever deterred a single murder.
I can assure you that nobody who has been executed has ever killed again.
But several murderers given life sentences have killed again in prison.
>>688090159
>>688089073
You shouldnt be raping people then you criminal
>>688090233
>>688090174
Sounds like more of a failing of the correction system when other civilized countries dont have that issue.
people like hitler, if ur genuinely an immoral soul and cant be saved, it can be a good case for population control, but you have to combine it with other efforts such as effective planned breeding programs, strict immigration screening (desirables in, un out, and how what & why the difference) etc
>>688089924
>The non criminals
everyone over the age of 10 has committed some crime
so by that /b/tards logic everyone should be executed
>>688090332
>>688089952
You realize the majority of the bible involves killing or being killed as part of a moral lesson...?
>>688090400
I think the death penalty is perfect. The prisons are coming up to max amount of people or close to it. They keep people on death row for a fuck ton of time. The death penalty shortens that especially it kills the useless people and saves government money also. I'm for the death penalty
>>688090131
>at the end of the day, we are no greater than them by killing them as well. we are just glorified killers.
Killer =/= Murderer
I'm a killer.
I will never be a murderer.

The majority of the Bible is the Old Testament, which Christians are not to follow.
>>688090514
it's more expensive for us norwegians to keep criminals in prison than killing them. google norwegian prisons and you're in for a shock.

crimes by societal standards and definitions its not always criminal and sometimes tolerated eg spartan society when a boy is growing up hes encouraged to steal & fend for himself, but not get caught; its almost a game where they won't catch him even though they can so long as he meets the elders (by virtue) of the societies standards in passings
plato - that aristocracy is giving a man due what that man is owed the difference between such
