The Warscape engine can never both accurately represent melee warfare and run well at reasonable graphics quality, because it relies on scripting band aids to hold it together. Medieval 2 looks better than Rome 2, runs a hell of a lot smoother, and is almost infinitely modifiable, while everything after Empire is locked to whatever CA decided should be the setting.
I've been modding Total War since 2007 and I've watched Warscape kill the franchise.

I forgot to add though that CA did do the campaign map a lot of justice in Rome 2. The grand strategy campaign in Rome 2 is excellent and I do enjoy naval battles, but the tactical combat that is the bread and butter of the series and sets Total War apart from any other turn-based strategy game is truly terrible in every Warscape game. I do enjoy the later ones, but the battles cannot compare to the older ones.

Considering that I and many of the core fans who made CA a success in the first place see no reason to purchase a half a game for $60 and be nickel and dimed for the other half, yes, it has killed at least what we old guard over on TWC loved about TW. Add in the fact that modding is nearly dead beyond super basic stuff like new units and rebalances, and yes, it has killed the franchise.
There is a reason that the M2TW mod forums and even the RTW mod forums are more active than the ETW, NTW, and S2TW forums combined.

Loved SOMA. Only thing that bothered me is that it's a guessing game with the ... things. Forget what they are. If you look at a grunt in Amnesia, you can get away with glancing to see if the coast is all clear. With SOMA you have to guess because as soon as you spot one of those fuckers, they're all over you and it's basically a reset. Though, that's how it was on PS4, haven't played the PC version (just built my first PC) and I've heard that a lot of mechanics are a shit ton better on PC, as is to be expected.

Morrowind, I spent so many hours in my teenage years uncovering every single last bit in this game. It was such an amazing game for the time it came out. I upgraded my pc just to play it.

You can get graphics overhauls that make the game look a lot nicer, but the gameplay is pretty much the same, and all the complaints I see about Morrowind are mainly to do with the outdated gameplay. I think there are some mods that improve gameplay a little but the only ones I have tried are graphics overhauls.

it's true that there are some enemies and strategic elements in the game but they are far from a selling point. you need to build a city in order to be able to deploy troops, city building is the primary objective (then trading, lastly military actions)

My vote goes to pic related since morrowinds already been posted. Yes, the characters were potatofaced and kind of awkward, yes, the leveling scaling was a mistake and the leveling system could've been better. It still had GOAT atmosphere, soundtrack and quests. Even the NPC's were kind of charming in all their clumsiness. This game is comfy as fuck
