It had the highest quality of life out of any communist nation. However it was stunted and simultaneously promoted by the cold war. First off: people like to say that capitalism is better than communism because capitalism produces better products. Consider this: the USSR literally went from being a loosely united country under a czar that used wooden plows to having electrical grids and railroads in the entire country within ten years and into fucking space within fifty years. The United States had its revolution in 1776 and still doesn't have clean drinking water in many places and had to literally move the finish line during the SPACE race in order to "beat" the Russians.
True, capitalism may have brought you nicer cars, fancier looking shoes, and cooler gadgets in the last century; but you have to consider that that is only because prioritizing that kind of production in what were the extant strongholds of the socialist camp at the time would necessitate an abrogation of the principle of international solidarity of the working class. I.e. Building a bunch of different factories to produce air Jordans when your twenty year-old country has just weathered a direct onslaught against the greatest fascist military force ever to exist would lose your leadership's legitimacy to rule an educated populace (the United States government doesn't have this problem, and has traditionally been able to extract surplus value, resources, capital, oil etc. from other countries by dint of force so as to bribe the people living here, though we're seeing more and more how that won't last). 1/2

If the students who noticed, that there were free riders in the first test, would have cared for their less motivated or even less gifted comrades and helped them to get better results, they would have gotten a profit from better overall test results.

Another thing is: Work to your ability, consume to your needs.
Assume you have two men carrying heavy bales of cotton, one 6'10' who can easily carry two and walk with normal speed and the second only 5'2" working heavily to get one of the bales moved.
Number two will be almost unable to walk after the day working - number one is still able to put him over his shoulder to carry him home after carrying four times the number of cotton bales.
Who worked harder, who derserves a higher wage? The one who spent all he had or the one who finished more work?
