I've taken to becoming "future me's" god. I take care of him as best I can and in return, future me thanks or "prays" to "past me" with praises of appreciation.

No matter how long you have known someone, how much you trust them, or how much you love them, always have a backup plan.
By that I mean, always have a stash of hidden money, a place to go when the shit hits the fan, and in general a plan b..
I have found; Weather traveling with friends I have known since childhood, family I trusted, or a girlfriend who I thought was madly in love with me and would never betray me.
Things can change on a dime and you can find yourself out in the cold, alone & broke.
Never burn every bridge for another person and keep an ace up your sleeve for when shit hits the fan, cause in my experience it comes when you least expect it and by the person you least expect.

I have found myself out in the street with $10 in a foreign country.
Kicked out of my own house and bank accounts frozen.
My life savings stolen from me by the people I trusted the most.

Don't give up on people or life, just know some of those people are not exactly who you think they are and sometimes you are not who you thought you were.
