For an example of a recent terrible franchise film, it was superman vs batman but I wouldn't call that an obvious cash grab. It had a huge budget, and of course it had an obvious draw because people wanted to see the spectacle of it all.

When people think cash grab, people think of things like the mask 2. It's not just the fact that it's a reboot or whatever. Movies that have been through developmental hell, that are trying to sell to a different audience, and movies that don't follow the same formula but try to mimic success usually don't pass the smell test.

Please tell me which modern "franchises" you think are obvious cash grabs though.
