The original canon maintained that fluffies were overwhelmingly loving creatures, if considerably stupid. There was no colour discrimination except from humans, no rape, smarties were simply fluffies that led herds, etc. The appeal was in torturing something that didn't deserve it at all.
Eventually someone tried reviving the fandom by finding all the rare bits of art that depicted smarties as demanding and cruel and spammed them on /b/. He picked up a number of new members who continued to develop along the assumption that fluffies were simply horrible creatures in general. They enjoy a sort of perverse justice that could be dealt out to fluffies who "deserve" it, rather than exploring a world of bizarrely evil humans.
It's weird, but basically there are almost two fluffy abuse fandoms operating concurrently.
