Just built this '57 strat.
Still need to lacquer the neck and file the nut to depth.
>>
>>687408224
Exactly. I've been through a couple squires and some of them aren't too bad. The guitar I use now is just a Mexican strat but I swapped some parts out. It's all about the player, never the price. But I've always wanted a goldtop Les Paul or an American Strat Deluxe. What about you, man?
>>
>>687403277
Any one got tips on paying?
I just started and have been learning a bit of theory. I know of basic chords and scales and and learning online. I'd say I'm intermediate now but I'm still not at a comfortable level, I lack a lot.

I'd like to play rock mostly but I like the guitar over all. Any first hand tips?
Please, I want to excel
>>
>>687408552
Just realized, this pic was before I was done buffing - was just test fitting some stuff. Only one I had with all the parts on it.
>>
Been playing 17 years. Have an american strat and a gibson lea paul studio as my go to's. Still use my old crate amp from highschool mostly. Pedals: rotovibe, dunlop wah, fuzz box, flanger, delay. I play mostly hendrix style 60's and 70's shit.

>>
>>687408740
Well it's not my fault that someone comes up with "I literally play all genres of music" when that's clearly impossible. For instance, I don't think anyone here plays bossa nova properly.
>>
>>687408558
I've played both at this music shop by me and God they feel so great but a little to pricey and I'm good just finally bought a 5 string I've really wanted just kinda want a nice fender p bass or a 1970s guild bass
>>
>>687408560
I taught myself how to play and I would highly recommend trying that out. Develop your own playing habits and keep at some of the theory. Also, if you can, learn to read music. I studied classical guitar and it's really helped a lot, so that's also a bonus. Just check some stuff out on the internet and have fun with it
>>
>>687408735
We'll I'm doing so. I can play some classical songs and a few modern Songs but OK, any thing else?
Maybe I lack creativity...

Tips on practicing? Improvising?

>>
>>687409043
I'd kill for a p bass. I just wouldn't play it enough to justify buying one. What kind of amp do you use?
>>
>>687409150
Use a metronome, always. When learning a new lick or a song, start slow then gradually speed it up with your metronome with like 5-8 bpm intervals until you're up to the desired tempo
>>
>>687409052
This, try learning pitches by ear and read notes and learn some music theory

does not literally mean I meticulously went through each and every genre ever and tried them out because I haven't lived long enough for that. But it means am open to anything and play too many genres to list off the top of my head, I'm not in a band or anything I'm not a professional musician focused on one genre I just play and enjoy as much music as I can of all types. Chill out

I can read, used to forcefully play piano.
Anything in particular in theory? I know chord constructions, intervals, major and fee other scales. Confused on modes. But I'm trying. Anything else?

I'm thinking of analyzing songs using the theory as well
>>
>>687409150
>Improvising?
You can practice putting individual notes together and making rhythms up on the spot, or you could learn different note patterns and rhythms and mixing them up.
Some people use some combination of both.
>>
>>687409260
I got a laney 150 watt bass amp from some old man for 25 dollars and man is it a steal it sounds really great, What so you use?

As far as theory goes, start with some basic key signatures. Just sharps and flats. after you get good at those, learn your pentatonic patterns and everything will start to fall into place. Modes become much easier after you know key signatures and pentatonics. Also, your basic major scales will help quite a lot.
>>
>>687408154

>>
>>687409443
While im sure music theory will help you out a lot, the best playing comes from the soul. I had some lessons, and pretty much stopped the instructor after a few days of "this chord is an Eb" type shit and said teach me a song. I barely know any chord names, but i know how to play them. I spent hours every day after school with a dvd player that i could loop song sections on and printed off tabs, practicing until i could play it right.
>>
>>687410066
You're already off to a really good start. Another really important thing to remember is not to let anybody say that they're better than you. attitude is really important when learning. Just stick with it and you'll be learning new shit all the time
>>
>>687409932
Its an rrx24
>>
>>687410508
Exactly. Never comment on your own playing to another player. Let them do that for you. And if you know youre better, they do too, so tale the opportunity to teach them.
>>
>>687403277
I play guitar, keyboard, harmonica, ukulele, bass, and mandolin. I've been playing music for 7 years now. Played at jazz festivals around California ever since 2013. I own 5 guitars, one of them is a Gibson Es 335.
>>
>>687410500
I've been basing it off tabs too and got power chords down easy but I feel theory might help me understand the mechanics more, this just me. But I'm glad you still succeed in playing
>>687410508
I have been rather shy. I play indoors because I'm afraid of being judged since I'm 19 and just now learning. But I will start being more confident with it. I really wish to learn. I have been given advice by guests.

To get better sooner you definitely need to interact with other musicians. Also a good approach to harmony is essential. I always say get a teacher, but if you can't, find some people to play with. Even church band might help as a last resort.
>>
I play guitar, no way I'm a guitarist.

But since I picked up the guitar and dropped gaming, I'm shocked at how rewarding it was and how much I was missing out on for the past 23 years.

Accept both positive and negative feedback, though. Once you get comfortable enough, look for some places to jam a bit. People will almost always listen

I've been playing for more than 10 human years.
A majority of what I've played and composed are solo acoustic guitar instrumentals.
I've been a part of cover bands, as well a bands that have mainly played originals.

>>
>>687412276
>Not trying to stir this pot too hard but "shredding" to me is just fucking noise and has little musical value
Some of it is just like listening to really fast music that sometimes doesn't have very much rhythmic variation, which it seemingly tries to make up for with melodic variation.
>>
>>687412076

Ok, serious question for all you /b/uitarists. How to you go about telling friends/acquaintances that you're a guitarists without sounding like a huge douche. Or do you normally embrace your inner egotistical faggot and use it as an icebreaker?

Seriously, I've been struggling with telling people I play guitar (for 10 years now) without sounding like an arrogant fuck

I asked this hot blond chick who wanted bang me, to teach me how because she seemed really good.
She said "This is called South of Heaven just play it like this." I failed at that for like 10-15 minutes.
So then she said "This is called Seasons In The Abyss play it like this." I failed at that for like 30 min.
I guess she likes Slayer. I gave up guitar after that and didn't fuck her.

>>
>>687413709
Personally, I prefer the direct approach. Go straight into conversation, you don't need transition. Meet a stranger, ask them what they think about music, they'll probably bring up that they are musicians if they're musicians.

I don't remember how everybody who knows me knows I play guitar, or I just don't feel like searching through me memory that hard.

But just about everybody who knows because they've seen my guitars or have seen me play.

Some friends of friends know because my friends tell them.

The fundamental tone of bass is in the low mids

V gives a tone of just mud and clank, which sounds cool if you're playing alone in your basement

When playing with anything other instruments, dial back on the low and high end to clean up the mud (too much music has was too much low end rumble) and unpleasant clank (room for cymbols) while boosting the mids for a thumping tone that cuts through the mix.

The man behind this axe here. I'm 22 now, I've been playing for 10 years as well now, and quite literally only started to impress girls, as much as playing is something I've come to love and cherish.

I don't have any music theory, so really I just learn things by ear / tabs / copying vidyas. I just embrace the ego man. It didn't really do shit for me until I started recording videos for youtube; I don't publicise, and have like 10 subscribers, but I just send the videos to people and pretend I'm really proud because 'lol this one took me so long to get right'. People love it actually

I'll probably just end up going to guitar center and buying the cheapest one I can find, but I'll keep that in mind.

Right now, I've got a couple microphones to use for recording. I just use the free trial of Reaper for editing.

I bought this 10 or $15 adapter so I could plug the microphone into my computer.
I moved, and something went wrong.
I'm not sure if it's the adapter or the microphone is the problem. I don't have a way to test it.
I'm going to buy an adapter when I get some free time, and I might have to buy a new microphone.

Don't go to guitar center they don't have they nicest basses try some local music shops you'll be surprised with what you find and it might be the adapter you are using idk I don't really know about microphones sorry

Mashed is pretty good, but those bacon cheddar potato wedges from Jack and the Crack are a guilty pleasure of mine.
>>
>>687412080
Yeah, thats a real nice guitar man. Oh yes, it will be mine.
>>
>>687415351
I guess if space is that tight it can help, but I can't imagine a room where I play music that's too cramped for a couple ground stands. I also only have 4 full sizes though.

I had that exact same bass which I put duncans in myself, it was a great bass.

Also if you picked that up about a year or two ago you might have the bass I sold lmao

I've been to some local shops around my area, and they were mostly the same stuff guitar center had, but more expensive.

However, at least the local guys are cooler and aren't drowning me with sales pitches.
I usually go to the local stores if I'm in the area and need an extra string.

The last time I was at guitar center, I was hit left and right with sales pitches. My cashier was this petite blond girl, and it's surprising how many sales pitches can come out of such a small women.

It was like the perfume department scene in spongebob.

How hard is it to pick up and learning your own ? I used to play violin if that helps. What would be your recommendation to start?
>>
>>687417413
its really not hard at all if you just practice. Search around there are tons of great sites and books. If you really want to learn you can.
>>
>>687417413
Not to hard that's how I started learning I also tried rocksmith for my xbox it really helps
>>
How do you pass what you've learned to someone else? People always ask for advice, but i don't know shit. I just play songs i like.
>>
>>687416949
Are you the op from that thread?
>>
reporting in, hope I'm not late

>How hard is it to pick up and learning your own ?
A teacher is only as good as his or her ability to teach. A student is only as good as his or her ability to learn.

>I used to paly violin if that helps
I played a little violin, I found the violin to be a lot more difficult to play than the guitar.

>What would be your recommendation to start
YouTube is free.
Learn how to read tabs, and learn simple melodies, riffs, and songs, because it's fun. You can supplement with more theory later if you find it too boring in the beginning.
>>
>>687417594
watch them play, see what they know. Then give any tips you can if you notice anything. Or show them licks you like and have them repeat it back. That's how i learned a bunch of shit.
>>
>>687417285
Yeah that's why I kinda don't like to go there eveytime I go I feel like I'm obliged to buy something also you can't buy a guitar without them trying to charge you for replacing string you can just do at home
>>
>>687417410
nah I sold mine in the middle of Ohio, unless they shipped my old bass to Chicago prob isn't the same. But hey it's still a really solid bass for the price, especially with the duncans
>>
>>687417594
>I just play some songs I like
Teach people how to play songs you like?
>>
>>687417966
Yeah it is the eq on it isn't the best but I got it for 250 So I'm pretty happy with that what made you sell it though?
>>
>>687418327
there's always better basses to be had, so I just upgraded
>>
>>687416720
I didnt realize what I asked for before it was too late but just keep at the guitar
>>
>>687413709
What? Same way you'd tell them you cook a lot, or you play hockey, or you're into remote control hobby shit. So in the sense that if you cook it'd be weird to shoehorn it into everything but if it comes up it comes up. It's just another thing.
>>
>>687418645
Yeah that's true but its a start with me I guess
>>
>>687417690
