I'm thinking about becoming a Freemason, but I don't really understand what they do. Can anyone here give me a rundown on what you do?

I'm pretty sure you have to know someone to get in, but I'm not positive. If someone can explain I would also like that.
>>
>>687378537
I understand you guys are secretive, but can you give me a general idea of why joining is a bad idea?
>>
>>687378469
I am also about to join. I would look into the history of it first. I know a fair amount because I have been meaning to join for a long while. What country are you joining in? Do you know lodge number/id of local lodge?
>>
>>687378683
I've heard a lot of people say they just asked to join.
>>
>>687378810
they are fragile
>>
I'm curious too. I talked to one at a museum once but he basically said that they were carpenters and builders and shit. I'm sure there's more to it. I also didn't like him because I couldn't touch his "sacred freemason sword" also the fact that he came out of nowhere scared me a bit
>>
>>687378870
You can sometimes just do this but there is a longer process usually with this.
>>
>>687378854
I don't know the lodge idea but I'm an American in southwest Washington state.
>>
It's really fucking boring.
I joined right after college, cause my fraternity had a loose masonic association. I believed association the edge lord bullshit, that it would help me get better jobs and pay, maybe even into polotics.

It turned out to be a old boys club, cost me more money than I got out of it.

Really boring rituals, most meetings were hoopla and political club business followed by drinking. Might as well party at an old folks home.

Did do some community service stuff, but you can find other avenues for that.

Waste of time
>>
>>687378469

Religion is banned in masons? Are you serious... In the UK many fall under UGLE (United Grand Lodge of England) and the ONLY way to join is to profess a belief in a divine being... Which obviously you can just lie (like I have)
>>
My father, Grandfather and so forth were in the Masons and also the orange order. I was a junior in the orange aswell. I would advise you to stay well clear, my family members never spoke of what goes on, but the fact when I constantly asked they still wouldnt spill is enough to scare me off it qand whatever goes on in there.

It's a Secret Society. There are at least 33 degrees of initiation. Most members never surpass degree 3. Degree 1-3 is known as "the blue lodge", it's like kindergarten.

The entire secret society is basically an apparatus to filter out useful individuals that could benefit the society's true goals. Individuals like this are brought up further beyond Degree 3.

The 33rd degree is a meritorious reward. It can only be given to a 32nd who has demonstrated a substantial contribution to the Great Cause (also known as The Plan, The Great Work etc etc).

You WILL take strange initiation rituals that swear upon punishment of death if you reveal the secrets of the lodge. Its not a backyard barbeque hangout with a couple of guys. Its a serious and dangerous secret society.
>>
>>687378469
OP here, is it an evil secret society style cult or is it just old people hanging out? I understand a great deal of masonry deals with sacred geometry.
>>
You do have to know someone to join, though most lodges are more than willing to have recruits. While the number of people in lodges has declined there is a number of younger people now joining.

I had 3 people become masons with me and we basically are the only guys under 40 there, but already have a few more recruits interested.
>>

>>
>>687379410
Sounds all well and fine, but it's not secretly some satanic bullshit under the surface is it?
>>
>>687378810

1. There's basically no benefit to joining. They make it seem like theyre just a community of men trying to improve the world and whatnot, and thats how it always starts out, but the deeper you get in it, the dirtier it gets.

2. It's essentially a cult, regardless of what people say. They allow you to practice whatever religion you wish to, but as a whole they worship "one figure", and they ask you to mold your religion around it.

3. Once you're in, there's no leaving. I hesitate to say I'm a "former" freemason, because I haven't really officially left the group. The reason is, once you leave, they keep their eyes on you really heavily just to make sure you dont let their secrets out.

4. It's super strict. They have guidelines that are questionable.
>>
>>687379871
Super strict in what way?
>>
>>687379328
They will "get to know you". What country are you from? Some will want to know you for a certian amount of time as a minimum. My lodge is an aprox. 6 month lead in from joining to actually being accepted. There is also a process known as "black balling" where your interest in joining (or application) is put before the lodge. There is then an anonymous process whithin the lodge where each member has a black ball and a white ball they will place one of these in the bag. If a single black ball is found in the bag you are "black balled" from the lodge and usually you are recommended to try another. It basically means someone in there doesn't like you or for whatever reason doesn't want you to join.

I (luckily) have a fairly young lodge but some genuinely are full of old weirdo's.

There is secret handshakes and traits etc. which you learn as you "go through the ranks".

My personal view is it's worth it but just be prepaid to be around a few odd balls every now and then (more weird people than a general other scenario)

To be one ask one.

The Mason's really depend on the average age of the group and size of city. If you find a lodge that is replacing the older members with younger members at the same rate it is cool. Because then you start networking with the younger memebers for business. The older members if they are not super old can make useful introductions to more useful business people. The older members you usually just listen to their old people stories and clear their dishes for them.
>>
>>687379793
no. the people at the top are all atheists. It's all about symbol with these secret orders. For example "Lucifer, light of the morning" represents LIGHT, which represents INTELLECT. They worship INTELLIGENCE above all else, which is all fine and well until you discover what it really means, which is that they are "The guardians of the secrets of the ages" and basically hoard knowledge, the knowledge needed to control everybody else.

No, it's not because the "the great work" they're trying to bring about is roughly going to be a one world, totalitarian socialist government. The entire reason Masonic cipher exists is so that the ritual has a mnemonic aid to help new Brothers learn it without the usual "have someone who knows it repeat it to you so much that you memorize it like some sort of ancient bard" requirement.

This is obviously necessary due to the obligations of the degrees, and their associated (now symbolic) penalties. If this doesn't mean anything to you, you're not a Mason. The long and short of it is that part of your obligation is an oath to never "cut, carve, stamp, stain, etc." any part of the ritual so that "it may be made legible" to an outsider. Hence, the cipher as a learning tool. Keeps everyone honest to their obligation, and helps new Masons learn ritual without always having to rely on someone who knows it being present to teach them.

I'm a Freemason (F. & A.M.) of the third degree... a 'Master' who hasn't yet returned that degree. Most of what I'm reading on here is bullshit.
It's a group of old or weird dudes most often... the higher circles are where it gets interesting. Very cult-like in that the entire process is steeped in tradition that is primarily passed along by word of mouth.
I became one in Ky and now live elsewhere... I can practice wherever but dislike the process of changing lodges officially.
Let's see.... what else... they're sorta racist.. but that depends on the lodge and given the fact that every single member has to approve of your entry into the fraternity. Prince Hall masonry is even more racist because nigs gotta nog and whatnot. They pretty much haze you during their initiations.

Your first premise "so essentially the same as the Roman Catholic Church" does not entail the claim itself. They are not the same as the grand Catholic Church as the Catholic Church no longer excommunicates.

This is not true, Free Masons worship Lucifer. They always have; they always will. This information is only shared to those in the highest degrees & therefore it is no wonder that Free Masonry has tried to destroyed the Catholic Church for centuries now.

Hmmm... I'd assume it's because the implied 'threat' needs to exist... but the actual hidden mysteries are so far removed from the first three degrees that there's no need to end life and cause a ruckus.

I always wondered why Lucifer was considered bad
he is punishing the wicked so isn't that good?
he's like the warden of the prison

I was interested in joining, and my local lodge asked me to join up. I went over and was talking to one of the guys, and when he started asking about my religious thoughts, he did not like the answers he got (I'm not religious at all). He told me to come back on another day, but then cancelled. I figure they were not interested in my kind.

Nah, the implied threat has stuck around for the sake of tradition, like most other things in Masonry. All this "Above Top Secret" stuff about the "higher degrees holding the greatest secrets of the Luciferian alien doctrine" are pretty funny to read, too. Where do people get this stuff?

We do this for the better good; humanity has never been able to rule itself. Democracy is but a joke! If voting changed anything, They would make it illegal. As far back as history can insight us, humanity has always needed to be ruled. It is this way in the animal kingdom (for mammals) as it is the natural way of things. Your freedom does not exist & until you realize this, you will always be a slave.

Yea lol.. tbh it looks like yours is younger in age than mine. A random meeting may have 15 if we're lucky. Sorta sad really.. we were just getting some younger members when I took off a few years ago. Average age.... probably 65-70.
I did experience an outdoor ceremony for the third degree though... that. was. awesome.

Don't let the officers fool you. We're mostly old guys. Frankly, I'm not sure which camp I'm even technically in, at 38 years old. At least I'm not old, crotchety and still trying to run the lodge.

We've done a couple of outdoor ceremonies, mostly with a much larger lodge in the same city. We also do the "Grandmaster's Classes" here. You guys do those down there in Ky?

My Lodge didn't... but they basically joined forces with two other lodges in the area to push about 6 members through that degree. It was intense... some hikers wandered by and two or three of the members apparently took off to avert them... it was an amazing experience.
25 here, probably one of the youngest members. Col. Sanders actually donated everything in our kitchen funny enough.
You say you're pretty much the one keeping it alive?
Also... I think my wife (newlywed) could care less... and honestly I have my own doubts. Should I continue and return the third degree?

My jurisdiction uses no cypher for the lectures. I feel like the lectures should be kept secret. Using a cypher still uses a a letter or sign. HTWSSTKS is written out in our Mark Master degree ritual book, so I'm fine with that.
>>
>>687404739
Your lodge is what you make it. If you want to have a stake in your lodge and change the culture, become an officer in your lodge. In order to do that however, you will have to be a Full-fledged MM.
>>
>>687404739
Nah, I don't keep anything alive here. I've accepted that this lodge is going to do what it's going to do and that's that. We've got younger people in officer's positions, and the "old guard" still trying to "helicopter WM" at every turn. I just sit back and let it be these days.

>Should I continue and return the third degree?
Not sure what you're trying to say here? Are you not a MM? If so, why were you sitting in on the MM degree?
>>
Masons darn stole my countries hearing
>>
>>687403992
Addendum.... I'm verrrry agnostic in my beliefs. In no way shape or form do I hold faith with any religion this planet knows. This troubles me as I often find myself nodding towards Jesus or a Christian God in order to blend in... I know that it's largely due to my location in the bible belt.
I do enjoy the brotherhood and fellowship though.. and indeed believe in A higher power. I just doubt I'll ever be bold enough to call him by a followed name.
>>
>>687405340
Please explain
>>
>>687405088
Let's be real, though. The secrets of Freemasonry haven't been much of a secret in quite a long time. There's always been Duncan's, and now there's the Internet. I suppose actually being a Mason helps you immediately pick out what's bullshit and what isn't, but there are plenty of accurate materials out on the web detailing pretty much everything.

I'm York Rite, so I can obviously tell you exactly what HTWSSTKS means, and on what object it's found. But I could just as easily look it up on the Internet and most likely have the correct answer.

>>687405490
Technically speaking, the order calls for only the belief in a higher power.
>>
>>687405255
Definitely familiar with the helicopter of WM. We've had one go crazy on that front.
Please see my reply to your previous post.
And I guess technically I'm not a 'full-fledged' MM. I am a MM.... but I have not returned that degree. As in.... done the equivalent to what I need to return in the prior degrees.
>>
The lower degrees of Freemason are just a bunch of dudes wondering who is going to pay the utility bills. Higher degrees are a different story, people of the highest degree are really powerful and rich people, the lower tiers can be but to a certain extent. They don't have a religion or follow any, they're taught things on a more complex level than what mainstream religions teach you. Yes a few work with elites and fund them as well and yes they have ties with a bunch of other groups around the world from the globalist to the rebels to monks in Asia. Point being, don't join unless you're prepared to get your hands dirty and plan to ascend to master.
>>
Maybe that's what we should do.... dues card with a time stamp haha
>>
>>687405929
In other words, you haven't met your own Grand Lodge's criteria for ritual memorization and whatever else they do in Kentucky on the EA and FC degrees?

My entire family were masons, my grandfather was a 33 degree (I got his ring after he died).

I know some have said it's just a boring frat like club with a bunch of old people. But after going down this rabbit hole, I am confused as to that being the truth, as it seems it varies.

Are there any benefits to being a Mason, are you cool with your decision? Is this basically a way to fit into your community by getting to know the elders of the area, and doing community work, or is this a secret society that has plans, or ideas that it wants you to believe or do?
