It's a Secret Society. There are at least 33 degrees of initiation. Most members never surpass degree 3. Degree 1-3 is known as "the blue lodge", it's like kindergarten.

You do have to know someone to join, though most lodges are more than willing to have recruits. While the number of people in lodges has declined there is a number of younger people now joining.

I had 3 people become masons with me and we basically are the only guys under 40 there, but already have a few more recruits interested.

1. There's basically no benefit to joining. They make it seem like theyre just a community of men trying to improve the world and whatnot, and thats how it always starts out, but the deeper you get in it, the dirtier it gets.

They will "get to know you". What country are you from? Some will want to know you for a certian amount of time as a minimum. My lodge is an aprox. 6 month lead in from joining to actually being accepted. There is also a process known as "black balling" where your interest in joining (or application) is put before the lodge. There is then an anonymous process whithin the lodge where each member has a black ball and a white ball they will place one of these in the bag. If a single black ball is found in the bag you are "black balled" from the lodge and usually you are recommended to try another. It basically means someone in there doesn't like you or for whatever reason doesn't want you to join.

I (luckily) have a fairly young lodge but some genuinely are full of old weirdo's.

There is secret handshakes and traits etc. which you learn as you "go through the ranks".

My personal view is it's worth it but just be prepaid to be around a few odd balls every now and then (more weird people than a general other scenario)

The Mason's really depend on the average age of the group and size of city. If you find a lodge that is replacing the older members with younger members at the same rate it is cool. Because then you start networking with the younger memebers for business. The older members if they are not super old can make useful introductions to more useful business people. The older members you usually just listen to their old people stories and clear their dishes for them.

The entire reason Masonic cipher exists is so that the ritual has a mnemonic aid to help new Brothers learn it without the usual "have someone who knows it repeat it to you so much that you memorize it like some sort of ancient bard" requirement.

My Lodge didn't... but they basically joined forces with two other lodges in the area to push about 6 members through that degree. It was intense... some hikers wandered by and two or three of the members apparently took off to avert them... it was an amazing experience.

My jurisdiction uses no cypher for the lectures. I feel like the lectures should be kept secret. Using a cypher still uses a a letter or sign. HTWSSTKS is written out in our Mark Master degree ritual book, so I'm fine with that.

Addendum.... I'm verrrry agnostic in my beliefs. In no way shape or form do I hold faith with any religion this planet knows. This troubles me as I often find myself nodding towards Jesus or a Christian God in order to blend in... I know that it's largely due to my location in the bible belt.

And I guess technically I'm not a 'full-fledged' MM. I am a MM.... but I have not returned that degree. As in.... done the equivalent to what I need to return in the prior degrees.

The lower degrees of Freemason are just a bunch of dudes wondering who is going to pay the utility bills. Higher degrees are a different story, people of the highest degree are really powerful and rich people, the lower tiers can be but to a certain extent. They don't have a religion or follow any, they're taught things on a more complex level than what mainstream religions teach you. Yes a few work with elites and fund them as well and yes they have ties with a bunch of other groups around the world from the globalist to the rebels to monks in Asia. Point being, don't join unless you're prepared to get your hands dirty and plan to ascend to master.

My entire family were masons, my grandfather was a 33 degree (I got his ring after he died).

I know some have said it's just a boring frat like club with a bunch of old people. But after going down this rabbit hole, I am confused as to that being the truth, as it seems it varies.

Are there any benefits to being a Mason, are you cool with your decision? Is this basically a way to fit into your community by getting to know the elders of the area, and doing community work, or is this a secret society that has plans, or ideas that it wants you to believe or do?
