Well it depends on who you trust, try to get a friend that will help you and encourage you. Its always nice to have a friend because if they are really a true friend then they will be there for you and listen to your problems it just takes a while to find that person.

Mental illnesses can be irrelevant to a friendship, like if it's bipolar or an anxiety thing--there's not really anything such a person could do that I couldn't forgive on the grounds of them being in a somewhat altered state of mind. Some mental illnesses can even be endearing, like one that causes a stutter or a strange phobia or something.

But then there are also mental illnesses that make friendship more difficult, if not impossible. Sociopaths, for example, can't be blamed for their mindset, but they're still hard to get along with.

Personally, I'm narcoleptic (diagnosis was narcolepsy and "idiopathic hypersomnia". which is science-speak for "you're narcoleptic and also tired all the time and we've got no clue why") and my friendships are generally unaffected, except that I'm usually very tired and thus not always able to participate in things.

Yes. My best friend deals with depression and anxiety. I worry a lot about him, but I'd never not be his friend because of it. I just help where I can.
I know a lot of people have broken off from being his friend because of those things though, I think it's difficult for some people.
It also helps that we've both dealt with self harm, so we have that in common.
Find a empath, those are the people who won't deny you because of mental illness.

mentally ill ppl generally make it really hard to be friends since (at least in my experience) they use it as an excuse for attention, if that makes sense. not to say all do, but i've had tons of mentally ill friends and they just have a habitof putting their stress on other ppl (me)

i was on antidepressants and antipsychotics for a while but they sucked, now i try to not to put my issues on other people, so i come off as reasonably normal and ppl don't really know.

I would, as long as they tell me about it. So i know why some stuff happends, and can help him/her in some situations.
