My problem with goth is how far they have moved away from what it used to be.
Very few "modern goths" are into the DIY aspect of the scene. It's now probably more materialistic than the actual mainstream. It's band name or nothing with the new generation of goth, it sucks. Kind of why I distanced myself from it.

With cheap mass produced alternative clothing and their parents credit cards kids jump from grunge, goth, emo and metal in a week with no real idea what any of the scenes actually stand for basically destroying them in the process.

But you gotta admit thay were a bit emo at some point, some depressive+emotive riffs and lyrics, like "i am lost without you" and "miss you". And besides they being popular, the clip of "miss you" had a really gothic background. But yeah, what i said made little sense at first because blink 182 are the ones who started this thing of being funny and happy on punk rock, yet they probably have some emo roots. Oh I won't deny they had emo influence, specifically on that record. They dabble into post rock and post hardcore as well on the self titled. But they were not an emo band by any means. Dark lyrical content is not the only qualifier for emo lol that's where a lot of people go wrong. Emo is short for emotive hardcore and was originally an insult term to differentiate from violent brocore in the late 80s/early 90s. The first emo bands were hardcore punk bands like Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, and Antioch Arrow and wrote about anything that wasn't being an asshole for the sake of 'punk' or 'fuck the government.' This eventually paired with post punk, indie, and post rock to make the more subdued emo sound we have today, from bands like Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Texas is the Reason that influenced the whole 00s scene (including Blink's self titled). anyway I'm getting too off topic and into punk history lol. point is fuck mainstream poseur culture that turns things into a vapid shell of what they once were.
