What would happen if a sun made of ice would collide with a normal, lava-made sun? Both suns would be the same size and ice-made sun's temperature would be -1000 degrees of celsius and normal sun's temperature +1000 degrees of celsius.

Would their combined effects cancel each other out so that instead there would be only empty space or one 0-degree sun?

I know this is some dumb copypasta so for fun I'm just gonna assume they're two planets. So assuming two planets of equal mass and average temperature of this theoretical -1000 and 1000degree C collided: The kinetic energy of the collision would be transfered mostly into heat energy due to the all the particles colliding with each other but being bound by the gravity of the two objects. So the object would be much hotter than 0C.

The remaining object after most of the collision has settled will be a single planet with 2 times the mass of one of the original planets, but a temperature much higher than the average of the two planets' temperatures.

Newtons 3rd law of the conservation of thermal heat energy in celestial bodies in space states that the normal lava sun would further absorb the heat from the ice made sun effectively doubling the temperature of the lava sun to +2000 degrees Celsius and halving the temperature of the ice sun to -2000 degrees Celsius. Theoretically the lava made sun could then keep absorbing heat from other cooler things until it heats up enough to cook the entire universe at once.
Of course the chances of these two suns colliding are very very low low, like 1 in thousands. They're not even created in the same asteroid fields so they don't ever meet in space. So this is all theoretical of course.

Stop replying to troll threads.
Absolute zero- the coldest temperature obtainable is -273 c.
>>
>>686938690
OK, I'm an astrophysics buff so ima set some shit straight.

First of all, there is no -1000C. Abs zero is like negative 250 or around there. Assuming its about that, a sun-sized ball of ice would be much more massive than our own, which has lighter elements than the oxygen in water. The ice-sun would instantly collapse under its own gravity and heat up exponentially quickly until it started fusing the hydrogen in its core, at which time it would begin expanding again and become much hotter than our own sun due to its higher mass. If our sun collided with another star of greater size, they would fuse to become a new, hot blue star.

>>
>>686942100
Yeah you're pretty retarded. If you actually read my post you'd see I changed the assumptions of the question purposely to simplify the basic idea that would actually answer someone's question if they were curious. Anyone with a few physics courses (or none at all really) could understand that a planet made purely of ice would collapse under it's own weight at a sufficient scale.

Learn to read before you try to inflate your ego LMAO
>>
>>686943336
Glaciers are made entirely of ice and they dont collapse at their core. Ice is stronger than you think.
>>
>>686942100
um no. Firstly, a block of ice with the same volume of our sun would have less mass. So sayeth wikipedia

Secondly, you're right that it would collapse and the pressure would atomize the molecules but as over a third of it's atoms are oxygen which make up 16/18 of it's mass the centre of the star will never ignite. Oxygen is considered a metal in astrophysics and it's the cancer of stars.

you'd be left with an extremely unnatural brown dwarf with a metallic hydrogen core and stratified oxygen layers

i think the people of atlantis new what the sun was made up from.when they all sunk in a grate earthquake they died.so did the ideas of what made the sun.
>>
>>686939162
That depends on the specific heat of each of them.
>>
Assuming they're equal masses of lava and ice, we assume there isn't a nuclear core and uniform density throughout, we ignore the fact that -1000 celcius doesn't exist, the sun made out of lava would win because it's specific heat capacity is several magnitudes higher than ice's. It would take more than lava's equivalent mass in ice to cool it down before the ice melts and evaporates.

Without reading the thread:

The two would become a new sun, because the mass is enough to confine fusion plasma.

Nope. Different materials retain different amounts of energy. Both materials would have to have identical energy retainment properties if a 1000c body and a -1000c body combined to create a 0c body. Water and rock do not.
>>
>>686938690

Since the absolute highest temperature possible in science is 273c, it'd be impossible to have a sun 1,000c but for the sake of argument lets say it's possible.

The two suns would fuse into a large mass 0c in temperature though due to gravity it would be elongated.

gravity would cause the two to merge and youd end up with one sun twice as big
the temperatures would cancel each other out of course but then you have to add in the heat from friction created in the collision, so the resulting sun would not be at zero degrees as you might expect but slightly warm, probably made out of wood or something
