I work a job where I have to see a lot of identification, and people in my age range often have i.d. pics dating back to when they were teens. 99% of every generic flannelbeard dude with buddy holly glasses was either a emo scene kid or an unkempt gross nerdy kid. Man has have beard since the stone age but as a fashion trend it comes and goes. It's been popular in mainstream pop culture with beards since at least 2010 and in 5 years it will be something else. Nothing weird about it, no conspiracy theories, no reptilians or jews behind the trend. I would say indie folk musicians are to blame who started the trend in the mid 00's. Iron and Wine comes to mind. and the hipsters just took it from there and some years later it became cool among normies too.

I participate in this all year round. Because my hair is really thick and grows too fast, so when I shave, 2 hours later I get horrible irritation because it's already growing back.
