Go for a restraunt that also has a bar, and try work as a barback, an expediter, or a busser. You won't cut it as a server homeless. You can put some decent cash in your pocket if you're good. Get a good, but medium sized backpacking bag. Youll want tohitch rides and keep your gear dry in small spaces.
Get one or two wood harvesting tools. A folding hand saw is great, medium weight hatchet is good too. I read the lil hand chain saws are ok, but links break...
Bring lighters. Fuck trying to keep matches dry. Bring lighters and a few bbq long matches, keep them in a zip lock bagwith cotton and/or other kindling.
Hygeine wise, dry shampoo, deoderant, a toothbrush and tooth paste (all smallest size you can find) cities offer free showers to homeless, find out how to utilize that fact
