Why did grunge have to die /b/?

Cause he wasn't there to keep it going.

it was murder thats why

Because it was stale and boring after the first 6 months.

Was how Kurt Cobain died found out yet? Was he murdered or did he an hero?
>>

I'd have fucking shotgunned my face too if I was married to Courtney fucking Love.

Why did it have to die? It was the point, wasn't it?

>>
>>685765637
It didn't die. It ran its course and devolved into Nickelback.
>>
>>685765994
Nickleback is hard rock though. Or country rock, I don't listen to Nickleback, don't judge fgts
>>
>>685765637
It got over exposed and commoditized. It already had become a cliché by 92. Even before Kurt died bands were trying to move beyond the label.

TL;DR It was the medias fault
>>
You know its been 20 years since Down on the upside was released.
>>
but not grunge only as a music style, grunge as a life style, clothing style and phislosophy.

like compare the grunge fashion to todays fashion. in the 90s you dressed cheap with usually echo friendly shit from thrift stores so it was a win for both people and the enviorment and now adays pepople wear their shitty china made sweatshop shit.
>>
>>685766464
the grunge clothing could have been designer too.
You do realize when a dad happens the first motherfuckers to pick it up are the fashion designers.
>>
>>685766713
I assume you mean fad, lol.

yeah but the thing was, the less money you spent on clothing the "cooler" you were. It was all about smoking pot, skipping school, dressing in torn jeans and flannel shirts.
>>
Check out Violent Soho, saw them a few nights ago and it was lit
>>
because it was supposed to die. I love it, but not even it's best band was a grunge band (Alice in Chains)

Permit me to explain:

Grunge really started with groups like the Melvins and the earlier Nirvana (see Bleach). When Nirvana made Nevermind, Butch Vig cleaned it up a lot, then it was actually remixed by Andy Wallace. This defined a style called Alternative Rock. So that's one step removed from grunge.

So Alternative rock takes off on the Radio, and dudebros start getting into it, so it gets watered down another level into bands like Bush and Fuel. This is the devolutionary cousin of Grunge.

At the moment, this devolution has left us with bands like Nickelback and - sigh - Foo Fighters.

The worst part? This devolutionary cycle never ends.

What's your problem with the food fighters? Honestly beyond his lyrics Cobain was kind of a hack compared to grohl and novaselic.
>>
>>685765637
HardCore is still as strong as ever, it directly descends from Grunge.
Listen to Norma Jean.
>>
>>685767567

I guess he was what you would call a "guitar anti-hero". He just played like he wanted to and I personaly think it sounded very raw and energetic.
>>
>>685767567
He did also play guitar, hes was pretty good, like really pretty good. Like greatly fucking good.
>>
>>685767567
Foo Fighters started off so strong, their first two albums are really great. They're really just very generic now. There's nothing exciting or interesting about them. It's very by-the-numbers.

Just to be clear, I don't lionise Nirvana, either. They were a pretty good rock band, but not as great as everyone seems to think.

just like New Wave. and the New Romantics before them. and the punks before them. and the hippies before them. and the rock and rollers before them. and the blues crowd before them. and the swing crowd before them. and the jazz crowd before them.

do you see a pattern here?

enjoy your next pretend teen rebellion movement, babby.

Thank you very much for posting that anon, it explains it well

nirvana wasn't/isn't grunge....melvins are grunge & it's a real shame I didn't discover them before nirvana cause if I did I wouldn't have bothered with nirvana :/

Grunge tried to kill the metal
They failed as they were thrown to the ground

they didn't try to kill metal.

they KILLED hair metal.
>>
>>685767730
Not really. He was good don't get me wrong, but none of his songs show all that much talent guitar wise. And he did pretty much rip off the melvins and smells like teen spirit he straight up said he made to sound like the pixies.

Glam was on its way out before he hit the scene.
Metal works better on a smaller stage anyway.
Also steel panther.
>>
>>685769050
I know it was on it's way out but kurdt put the final nail in the glam coffin by writing simple yet great riffs which made all the soloing widdilahwiddilah tech guitarists look like shit. this glam metal yngwie malmsteen faggot said to me once "kurdt made it shit to be a good guitarist" & fuck did I laugh.

Steel panther are great....especially if u grew up & tragically like glam metal like me when I was to young & dumb to know any better...lol

there will be. it just takes a little longer because the music industry just got all its blood sucked out of it by the internet, and large record companies don't see the point in funding pretend teen rebellion if the fucking teens aren't going to give them money in exchange for CDs.

hory shet, maybe we just broke the cycle.
>>
There were only two bands on the grunge scene that were ever worth a shit. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Everything else was kinda shit.

no. fuck no. fuck fuck shit piss fuck a million times no. millennials have bought into every other stupid craze that's ever been invented with the possible exception of scientology. i'm going to go with "we're too cool to be manipulated like that.. hang on, i have to tweet about this."

absolutely not true. The easiest songs make for the best tunes m8. Look at the white stripes for instance.

Plus, Cobaine was heroined up most of the time and still could play. Come on, Im not even a real fan but you gotta admit he's done alright.

I think the reason is because the genre of mainstream has completely changed and nobody wants to be a nirvana wannabe..

Chad Kroger of Nickelback got it right when he said this back in 2014:

[Back then] metal was big. Really big. So there was Megadeth, a lot of this riff based stuff."

Chad continued, "Everyone had an amazing guitar player in the band. So that was a pretty good time to grow up because you actually got fairly decent at your instrument."

"Then GRUNGE came along and all you had to do is just kinda slam on it and make noise and not care. Suddenly it's cool to suck?! We're gonna ride this wave! [laughs]"

Hate on Nickelback all you want. But Chad Kroeger has one of the best voices in rock today and has had for quite some time. He and the rest of Nickelback are great musicians that are extremely tight when live.

I like the whole grunge style, not only the music.

I prefer wearing clothes that don't fit such as torn jeans, flannel shirts, broke ass converse shoes and I also like not using shampoo, smoking pot and skipping school.

when they die, they become legends. If it was Chris Cornell that died instead of Cobain, it would be Cornell that would be seen the way Cobain is seen today. Cobain would just be how Dave Grohl is seen today... or maybe even less popular, because I personally think Dave Grohl gets way too much praise.
>>
>>685780961
thats the problem with layne staley. He slowly died for years so no legend was born
