Does anyone know what this is? My friends brother found it on the road. It a metallic silver color. It solid, heavy and has some pores. My friend is a rock sampler and he has no idea what it is? Says he's tried to polish it and its barely left a mark after six months of trying. He also put it on a flame and it doesn't retain heat... really weird.

He took an angle grinder to it yes, that's why it's smooth. Says he took it to a geology expo a year ago and apparently all these professionals couldn't identify it? They did some laser testing on it and found high traces silica and small traces of "everything else"... guess the list of elements found were a lot!

High silica content would give it a lighter and clearer color. Something like quartzite is high in silica content, and if you look at a picture of it, you'll see what I mean. It's definitely more of a mafic rock. Looks a lot like magnetite to me, but he said it wasn't magnetic. My guess is it's either a spray-painted rock or a meteorite.

>>685564375
>>685564596

That was my guess as well. Looks highly similar.

Issue with hematite is the color but that is highly variable when it comes to a lot of different rocks

A list of all the elements that come inour lead. Lead is the most. But it still contains other elements, there is no thing as 100% pure lead, the other elements are hundreths of thosands of a precentage but theyre in there.

I'm talking about atoms here. One atom of lead is just lead. If you have a lead ingot or ore, then yes there are impurities.

Lead doesn't naturally/perceivably occur as one atom, or a solid chain for that matter. So your theoretical conditions are good for stupid chemistry math and nothing else. Wanna learn life?

>>
>>685565564
No, it's called a scanning electron microscope.

We had to start using those when we wanted to see things that were smaller than regular microscopes would allow, because photons are simply too big. Electrons, being much smaller, allow for much finer details. It gets the "scanning" in the name from the way that it's used to "scan" an object with electrons, and then measures the resultant secondary electrons as they return back to the sensor.

You're welcome. :)

Why don't you dip-shits take a 5th grade science class. Don't you remember how to identify rocks? Color? Does it have a luster? Test its hardness with a brass rod, then a steel one. Is it magnetic? Is it reactive to a 5% hydrochloride acid solution. Test its specific gravity. Weight per volume? How does it react to heat?

/b is a bunch of uneducated idiots.

its the crap you get as waste after smelting ore

Its usually more 'glassy' than this... but the pores tell me it has undergone some processing by man

It's called detail silicate. It's use to produce steel you probably live somewhere in the Northeast or southeast to have found it on the side of the road. It probably fell off a truck heading to the steel mill
>>
>>685560914
It's not a meteorite in case any retards try to say that..

Try using a chisel and hammer on it... he tried to polish it/grind it? Well then it's gonna be SUPER brittle. You should be able to crush it if it's tungsten carbide. It'd help us if you told us just WHERE you found it. What country/city/road?

Also this is definitely bait nobody spends months polishing a rock without figuring out what the fuck it is...
