I think it's nationwide. Apparently in just like 3-4 years they're shipping about 100,000 barrels of beer a year now, so you should be able to find it outside New England with a little effort. Obviously it's everywhere in New England. It's cheap, the 6-packs are like $6 but because they're 16oz beers it's actually the equivalent of eight 12oz beers. Don't let the price fool you either, it's a really drinkable "classic" beer flavor. They also have a bunch of craft beers they make on the side which are quite novel and also not very pricey. And yeah, they're a great company.

Steel Reserve. Tastes like shit (so does PBR) but is cheaper and is 8.1% in most areas. If you're on the west coast, St. Ides is 8.3% and doesn't taste terrible.

Otherwise, Natty Ice, Busch Ice and Schlitz Blue Bull are cheap and taste better than PBR and are 5.9%.

Speaking of New England, this little company opened-up in Salem and their New England Cider is crazy good. Based on what i've read it sounds like they're the only company in existence selling "new engand style" cider. Cold barreled over winter and fermented with maple syrup. They have a book from the 1750s that they got their cider recipe from.

This isn't typical cider, it's not sweet and it doesn't taste like fucking apples. It's almost a little boozy but sooo good.

My go-to beer? If I'm stuck getting something that's available at a convenience store, probably a Sam Adams seasonal. If I'm going to a store that actually sells good beer, I tend to go for Westpoint gose. I have a hardon for sours, and the Westpoint gose is the best I've had for the price.
Most of what I drink though tends to be homebrew, since it's cheaper and I always have a lot of it around. At the moment I'm drinking a recipe I've slowly been perfecting that involves hibiscus, lavender, and juniper berries. Also I've been making cider with a little black currant juice that comes out really nice. Cider is so cheap to make that if you have the equipment, there's no reason not to.

I would say the best American beer when it comes to all-around good taste is definitely Samuel Adams Boston Lager. Widely available too, second biggest wholly American owned brewery next to Yuengling.

But when it comes to cheap beer, I always pick Miller High Life, the Champagne of Beers. Definitely the best regular cheap lager in America; sweet, malty, well carbonated, and that clear glass bottle is beautiful, it's one of the only beers I drink straight from the bottle rather than pouring it into a glass.

Shit, I used to buy the 40s of Olde English. Now thats something that absolutely must be ice cold, but It'll do the job for cheap. What I found worked better was the 3.50 dollar pint of whiskey (T.W. Who else shower beer's? I love drinking a can of beer while taking a shower and I know it's fairly common and that's not the strange part. For those of you who takes beer into the shower, do you ever fuckin find that it somehow makes your beer taste better??

I was drinking Busch Ice one night at my computer and I couldn't drink more than two because they tasted awful. The next night I took a shower, brought the exact same fucking beer in with me, and it tasted really fuckin good. What the hell? I've tested this with other shitty beer and it's the same result.

It's really not hard to make something drinkable; my first batch was a brown ale that I made from a kit and actually came out delicious. The biggest thing is that you will need to be fanatical about sanitation. If you want to look into making your own recipes, pick up The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, by Charlie Papazian. The book also has some great recipes in it.
The initial startup for getting all the equipment you need to make a basic partial mash may seem a little steep— about $130 or $150, but it basically pays for itself by the time you make your third batch.
Bottle conditioning usually refers to a secomdary fermentation and carbonation by adding extra yeast and fermentables when putting the beer in the bottle. Usually I just throw some carbonating sugar (dextrose) in the bottle and carbonate it that way. Yeast eats the sugar, farts out CO2, and in two weeks or so from the bottling date you have yourself a carbonated drink.
I usually do a short fermentation (2-4 weeks) unless I'm going for a certain style and/or using something like wild yeasts or bacteria, in which case I may do anywhere from a few months to a year.
Really the biggest thing is patience. I think more people would do it if they realized how cheap and easy it is.

Good choice fam. Love those "middle ground" brews. Michelob Amber Bock is also a solid alternative to Shiner, they're very similar but a little different. The cheapest of the amber lagers those is Busch Signature Copper Lager, which really isn't too bad and is cheap as hell. It's probably THE best beer for the cheapest price you can get anywhere.

I'm the guy you checked. The cheap liquor guy. Shower beers are great, but you gotta be careful. I dont know why shower beers get you more fucked up, but its probably a combination of lots of external stimuli and movement (You aint moving around and stretching under running water if you drinking in your recliner). Also probably the natural reaction of the body to open poors and and take in liquid (ever notice how you always have to pee in the shower?). My best advice though, is to drink a little of your stash of whatever, very quickly, jump in the shower, dry off quickly and vigoriously, then hit the sack, turn on a good tv show (not a movie, nothing action, it will get you wired, nothing with conflict, something funny and mellow like Golden Girls or Friends or something) And drink the rest of your shit fast. You will get faded, very mellow, and drift off into an peaceful slumber.

Well actually, fruitbeers actually have a rich history in Belgium, and even in Germany before Reinheitsgebot (the "Bavarian Purity Law") snuffed them out.
It's also worth noting that the law had little to nothing to do with the actual "purity" of beers and was really about controlling the consumption of raw ingredients, especially during times of scarcity so there would in theory be fewer shortages of things like wheat or fruits by forbidding their use in the production of beer.
The real reason it was called the "purity law" was to drum up support for it by applying a sort of nationalistic backing, touting the superiority of German beers.

Yeah, if you think at all that you might want to become serious, stay away from those dinky cheapo Walmart kits. I have actually heard of people getting good results from them by fermenting longer than the instructions say, but for the amount they typically yield and the time it takes to ferment it properly, you're better off going all out for a good kit so you can brew bigger batches
As far as fermentation vessels: honestly, unless you plan on doing long fermentations or making sours right off the bat, a white plastic bucket kit will do you good. Just don't ever clean them with anything abrasive; it'll create microscopic scratches in the pastic that bacteria can get into and is incredibly difficult to get out, even with an overnoght bleaching. Like seriously you're better off getting a new bucket at that point.
The standard batch size for brewing seems to be five gallons, which will give you about 50 to 53 bottles.
