Most Universities here are public/state owned. We don't have not much in common with the international 'private' standards.

You just pay for your life expenses and material costs. University fees are 100-300 Euro ($150 - $400~) all 6 months, depending where you study and live. That's it.

There are few ways of funding your studies.
(1) Your parents pay for your life expenses. That's the norm when your parents earn X amount of euros.
(2) BaföG - basically for 'poor' people who normally could not afford to go to University.
You get about 620 Euro ($800~) and have to pay back 50% in 5 years if you can with no interests in it and your debt will NEVER exceed 10.000 Euro.
(3) Not so much used but sometimes useful a small student loan.

So yes. There are few private Universities out there here as well (which charge 500-600 monthly) but they don't have a good reputation and are basically degree mills. Nobody attend those for serious degrees but just rich spoiled kids.

The overall costs of studies and Universities are most likely not present so you can even work part-times, attend University and can get out of it with no debt if you're smart. The only 'difficult' thing would be getting into a medical program (You need a high-school equivalent of 3.6-4.0 GPA? I don't know your system, but a good one) to be considered. Otherwise you have to make a test or wait for 6 years (you have a quota here as well for attending any university program here if you wait for x amount of semesters if your high-school curve doesn't cut it).

So yes. Even 30k debt here is not a common thing.
