I've talked to my therapist about my drinking a couple of times, and he begrudgingly said that so long as I don't drink when I'm doing my exposure therapy and not to the point where I'm interfering with my meds it's okay. I'm in exposure and response prevention therapy to help with my obsession. I've been diagnosed with OCD (amongst other things) and this is one of the only known ways to reliably reduce my obsession and the anxiety that comes with it. I concentrate on the urges that they give me and feel more and more compelled to act on them until it's absolutely unbearable, break my concentration and HAVE to do something or distract myself so I don't act on the thoughts. Meditation is fucking hell.
And don't think that I haven't tried it properly, I went to a goddamn Buddhist monastery for months when I was a teenager to learn how to properly do it and no amount of direction was able to change how distressed it makes me. It's just not the right answer.

Well fam, when I was a kid my parents were very abusive. My father was very violent, killed a lot of our animals, beat my mother and little brother, encouraged me when I did anything antisocial, was very paranoid, all sorts of shit that was really fucked up. I think the seed was planted when I saw him killing my pet rabbit when I was 4 years old. I started having nightmares after that about killing my family and eating their bodies, every night, and the obsession started in. My mother, she was utterly fucking insane. She emotionally abused me more than physically, and prevented me from expressing myself in any way emotionally. If I ever lashed out at her or my father or anyone when I was around her she screamed at me, hit me, the works. It was so that the only outlet I had for my emotions was through killing things and being around their dead bodies.
So when I went to my first funeral, and I saw my mother acting not like her usual unstable, paranoid, insane self but as a respectful, sane, mature woman, loving and responsible and reasonable, and all of my other family members were doing the same, I completely fell in love with what was responsible: the dead body.
It was an open-casket funeral, so I was able to get close to the corpse... when I saw it for the first time I was absolutely smitten. I was so taken by the corpse's beauty and demeanor and every little thing about it that I became completely obsessed with them from that day on. I HAD to find a way to be close to them, to be around them as often as I could, to show my affection towards them and love them.
I used to be intrigued by gore threads. I'd go through them out of curiosity. Now they just make me sad. All of these people died horrible deaths.
