Cracking the OS password ranges from very hard to impossible, depending on the OS. Not worth it. Consider trying to log in as the secret admin on windows 8 or 10 to install the rat, but unless she is super retarded that won't work.

Linux won't help you unless you learn how to implant software properly on the host OS. Which you won't.

So back to social engineering. Get her to install your rat. If she works out it's a virus then just say you downloaded it off the net and you don't know anything about any virus.
